Howdy folks, I have a .458 win mag on the way, I have dies, brass and some hornady 350 grain bullets, but I'd like the get some 400 or 500 gr tsx's, noslers or even just some 400 or 500 gr "plinking" bullets other than casts. Would prefer to not use flat points.... Any suggestions on where I could find some in canada, since getting them out of the states is a no no, last I checked

If you're ever in GP, Wholesale Sports and Barton's usually have 500 gr Noslers on the shelf. Partitions I think. Have you checked many places around Edmonton?

Jacketed .458/500s run from expensive to ridiculous. The .458 will shoot cast bullets with gas checks at a fraction of the cost, with no issues, except that you'll want to bell the mouth of the cartridge slightly prior to seating the bullet. My 480 gr WFNs run about 2200 fps, which I got without much experimenting. While I have a few 550 gr WFNs, I haven't loaded any yet.

The best bang for the buck with 500 gr jacketed bullets is probably 500 gr Hornadys, but 405 gr bulk bullets intended for the .45/70 are probably the least expensive option for plinking with jacketed bullets. I like ball powder in the .458, due to the small powder capacity, when heavy bullets are seated to the cannelure. I'm using H-335 at the moment, but W-748 performs well too.

What he said.. 500 grain jacketed bullets are horrifically expensive, and once you have shot something with a 500 grain cast gas check bullet you will never need jacketed ones.

I have a box of 20 Barnes TSX .458" 450gr Flat Base #45819 sitting on the shelf pm me if you want to make a deal.
