I'm thinking about a .458 lott for some heavy weight plinking, and I'm wondering if any of you 'Gunnutters' have had any experiences with the round. Both good and bad would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There's a chum over at Russel Sports in Cow Town who loves his Lott. IIRC he was able to get 150-200 fps more than a standard 458 Win Mag. He didn't mention anything about recoil but I can imagine it is not for the faint of heart.
If I'm remembering right, this is a 375 H&H blown out straight, right?
If so, unless you have a big budget for a bunch of smithy work, you will need to find a Winny 70 or Rem 700 action to have a long enough action.

One thing to consider, I don't believe these big boys like to be loaded down or there is a danger of a hang fire. 458 win mag loads are probably minimum for the longer case, double check to be sure.
Be sure you like to pick yourself up off the dirt everytime you squeeze off a round and it will all be good.:)

CZ offers 458 Lott in their 550 Safari (contact He Whose Name Shall Not Be Spoken - Rick at ATRS - as he brings in CZ)

Also you can convert a Ruger M77 RSM to 458 Lott and the Ruger #1H 458 Win can be made a Lott as easily as running a Lott reamer into it.

The rifle I was eyeing is already made. I just wanted to know if anyone has had any first hand shooting experience with the calibler;)

Arrrrrrrr you guys with the wimpy gun's, try a real gun!

Party's getting rough.

If I was going for a .458 rifle I would wildcat a .375 Ultra. Cheap brass and 2400 fps with a 500 gr bullet from a short barrel. Besides then I could keep teasing Pounder that his .458 is a pistol round.

No to the first and yes to the second! I would describe the shooting of the gibbs as a heavy push rather then a kick!

Personal circumstances have curtailed my hunting time.
