I agree, it's a smart system, and truly anchors a big, heavy recoiling barrelled action. Stands up to the .458 Lott and .416 Rigby RSMs which are in very heavy use in Africa, and no attention is paid to bedding on those kind of work rifles. Design like that is sadly on the way out with Ruger I fear, I think its new direction, the "American" etc and dropping of some of the nicer offerings recent and not (RSM, Gold Label as standouts) signals a continuing change from the Bill Ruger Sr. era. Bill Ruger really liked classy, solid working rifles and shotguns, it was his mantra, and he was the force behind the revival of the quality falling block at a bargain price, the American side by side, and the Express Rifle at a price the layman can afford. Now we have "tactical" 10/22's, a slew of ARs, 1911s, plastic framed pocket pistols, and the like becoming the focus. Doesn't concern me they're making those, I just wish they could still be Ruger in the meantime. I think they're on a dangerous path trying to be like everyone else and losing their originality and brand. But I digress...
