458 Socom moose hunt

Very interesting round and interesting rifle build Rode.

I've always been curious as to what the max. effective range of the .458 Socom is. Such an interesting cartridge. Thanks for posting.

Nice shooting! Very interesting round ballistically similar to lower .45-70 Marlin/.450 Marlin, or .458 WM/.458 Lott reduced loads. How cool would that be to have one in an AR platform rifle for which it was originally designed  -

I don't know a thing about this cartridge except for what I've just learned from this thread. Sounds like something I would have no imaginable use for.

I want one! And it needs to be in a gun as cool as your little one is. :)

Congrats on the moose...is the moose hunting thread still alive and kicking? This needs to be posted up there.

Edited to add: Imagine one of those neat little CZ Carbines in this chambering...major magazine alterations, but, wow...

I dunno, this is almost a "black rifle" thread ..

Black rifle, single point sling, short barrel, exotic experimental military round ..... tactical ungulate sniping !!

Nice project Rode.

Very cool! I always liked the .458 SOCOM. I was going to build a .458x2" a few years ago. I had the barrel ordered and paid for, the donor, dies, brass and bullets. When the barrel failed to arrive after several months and excuses, I cancelled my order and got a refund. With a .375 Ruger in hand, by then, my need for a cool thumper was filled. Maybe a future project.
