458 Socom moose hunt

Love the .458 SOCOM. The cartridge was designed as a heavy hitter on soft targets for the US land troops after the debacle in Mogadishu in '93. It's based on the .50 AE brass, but a tad longer to get the required specs. & has a rebated rim to fit an AR 15 bolt face. Using 500 gr. bullets at 1300 fps. it equals the older .45-70 standard loads and with 600 grainers at sub-sonic levels, it delivers.

OP's Rem 700 version is beauty.:)

I think it's a perfect balance for north American game. Cast bullets for small game. Hornady 300 gr hollow point or 350 flat nose for deer. Speer 350 hot core or Hornady 350 round nose and Remington 405 gr for moose and bear. No tube mag to worry about for pointed bullets like woodlieghs 400 gr work just fine. All without the recoil of full house 458 wm loads. It's basically a bolt action 45/70
Necked to 416 would be great if there was as many bullet choices as the 458
