.458 Socom or .450 Bushmaster?

I'm going to build one of these as my next rifle, but I'm torn.

My initial thought was .458, but being able to reload the .450 on the cheap side is an attractive advantage.

For those of you that have one, what barrel and bolts are you using?

Any tips for the build outside of building a rifle in a standard caliber?
 
450 B.M uses the front of the case to headspace. Careful with your crimp.
458 socom has a shoulder. I prefer a bottle neck cartridge in a semi automatic platform..
Love my Wilson combat...
Check out the 458 hammar..,, runs a much higher pressures then the socom..
I like the 458. Cal bullets,,, more options in bullets and weights the the 452.cal

This. I recently looked up both, and comparisons of the two. I read in a few places that the .450BM cases had a tendency to swell in diameter and shrink in overall length, making them too short to re-load. Prefer something that headspaces off the neck, rather than the front of the case.

Also, with such a large rim diameter you're definitely pushing the limits of an AR-15 bolt. I'd prefer a round that is less susceptible to headspace issues, to avoid a possible over-pressure kaboom? My knowledge of reloading is fairly limited, so I'd appreciate it if someone with more knowledge would correctly me if I'm wrong about any of this stuff.

Magazines are also worth considering. I believe 450 is a 5 round mag whereas the 458 is only 2...at least if you listen to the RCMP.

I've read in a few places that you can feed .458 SOCOM out of standard mags with .223/5.56 followers (So if someone happened to have some 5 round .50 Beowulf mags, they could also use them for .458 SOCOM). I wouldn't mind confirmation on this though.
 
Yes indeed 458 socom will feed out of 223/556 mags. My cmmg anvil ships with lancer mags they say have been optimized to feed the 458 better but the regular 223 mags I’ve tried feed just the same. They will only hold 2 rnds of 223 tho!
458 socom is not available in Canada yet so reloading is a must if you intend to shoot!!!

That's what I will have as soon as my SLR receiver gets here, I know it's not a produced rifle but gathering the parts and building the rifle is rather simple.
 
Wait a few months and the 350 Legend will be another AR option.
