Just saw a thread related to the newly 30 rounds mags ban in NY on a fb AR page.

They are now limited to 10 rounds. But someone stated that a 10 rounds .458 SOCOM dedicated mag can legaly contain 30 .556/223 rounds.

Is this a fantasy thing or can we really use this to finally use a loophole for that mag capacity thing here in canada ?

Im wondering ...

No. Same thing as a Beowulf mag.

Rifle mags are limited to 5, and they've deemed these types of mags as "dual use". This has been debated for years on here.\

None of this is new in NY. They've had the "safe act" in place for years.

It would have to be labeled as a pistol magazine which it is not and as BooSSted mentioned the RCMP have said that all of these are dual purpose so you'd be limited to 2 rounds of 458 in the magazine because they've said that no STANAG pattern magazine can hold more than 5 rounds of 223 unless it is marked as a pistol magazine from the manufacturer.
Now, this is so far not the law, but they put out a notice to state their opinion on the magazines. So just like a Beowulf magazine you can still buy them and use them at your own risk. You may win in court if it came to it but it's going to cost you a lot of money in lawyer bills and a lot of your time to come away without criminal charges that you will not be compensated for afterwards.
