458 win mag with 650 gr bullets

Ok so I recently picked up a bunch of projectiles off of the EE in a couple of cals. In the mix were some 650 gr bullets for the 458 winchester magnum. Now everything that I have access to, books and the Hodgdon site, only go up to 510 gr bullets. Is there anyway to extrapolate the formula for a 650 gr bullet? Perhaps someone on here has a recipe for such a big round? I've been using Varget with good results so far with lesser gr bullets so I'd like to keep using it if possible. Thanks.

No published data for that one, I expect.

Quickload says: 60gr Varget - 650gr 1.5" bullet - COL 3.340" = 1780 fps / 54,600 psi.

Varget is too slow for most 458win loads but theoretically works well with a heavy 650gr bullet. 60gr Varget is a full case in this scenario (assuming bullet length etc), close to touching the base of the bullet or even lightly compressed.

If it were me I'd get a starting point by backing off 10% and then attempting to work up to 60 gr. What you would do is up to you and depends on your level of experience and understanding.

I'd love to experiment with different loads and such, unfortunately though I've only got a small hand full of the 650gr bullets (14 to be exact) and I doubt that I'll see anymore for quite some time. Maybe I could instead just back off the 60 gr loads by the 10% and just leave it at that.

Sounds reasonable to me. be interesting to hear how it works. That's a big piece of lead.
