.458 win mag

I have had very good luck with 75.0 grains of H335, 500 grain Hornady RNSP, Federal 215 primer and Remington cases in my Brno model 602. Velocity from the 25 inch barrel is just a hair under 2100 fps (instrumental 12 feet from the muzzle - actual muzzle velocity is probably right at 2100 fps). Accuracy is very good in my rifle. Hope this helps.

H335 is a good powder in 458winmag.

73.0gr H335, 485gr pc bullet, 2200fps / 22".

Hornady brass
Fed 215 primer
Woodleigh 500 gr. RNSP
74 gr/H335

Spot on at 2150 from a 23 5/8" barrel. Parker Hale 1100M. No pressure signs.

I haven't worked up a load for solids yet. Once the bugs bugger off I'll get back at it. Right now the little bloodsuckers are too distracting.
I'll update as I try different bullets and powders.

I have two .458’s and seven 45/70’s every load with every bullet weight 300 to 525 grains I make is with IMR 4198 and results are superb!

72grs h4895 405 rem fnsp or 400gr woodliegh ppsn at 2400fps. First load i tried and put 3 thru the same hole at 50 yards. Figured i couldnt do better. I worked up a load that got a 300gr hornady hollowpoint to nearly 2700fps put i cant recall the powder used

well lets just bring this one back up

I will be looking at working up loads for my Zavasta model X got a few hundred Speer 400 grn bullets to work with and a pound of IMR 4198, I also have a lot of H380 and a few pounds of IMR 4227

I'm not looking at plinkers, I am going to work up to the top end of MV, any suggestions ?

H380 is a bit slow. Best speed is in the 4198 to 4895 range.

Try 65 to 68 of 4198

How do you ffel about that load with a 450gr TSX?

I never used that exact bullet in the .458 much, but did use the Barnes solid more. Solids on buffalo are pathetic; they have achieved perma-vacuum status because they suck so hard.

In what might be an interesting story; I did do a little test with the 350 TSX culling Asiatics. Part of that was to have a lower recoil option to retreat to if the day after day pounding got to be a bit much. It did that; though admittedly that’s a pretty specialized circumstance. The other part was to see to what extend a light mono could make a .458 into a .375. It did a surprisedly good job of that. Beyond the lighter recoil that I did appreciate at times, there was no reason to prefer them over the A-Frames. There was a real downside when the ranges got longer. Expansion dropped off to a fraction of what was displayed at short range. I’ll still take any TSX over any CEB; but thats a story for another day.

I checked my Woodleigh manual, they list H4198, 67 gr for 2,320 max load. Also 76/H322 @ 2,400, 78/Benchmark @ 2,340, 77/H4895 @ 2,350, and 77/Varget @ 2,310.

You guys may want to try the Barnes 300 grain TTSX Socom bullet. I shoot them sabotless in my smokeless .458 ML out to 300 yards and 1/3 to 1/2 MOA. Just a beautiful bullet. Killed lots of whitetail with this one.

Pushed accurately as fast as mid 2900’s in the muzzleloader.

Favourite hunting load is with IMR 4198 and clocks in between 2720 and 2750 fps depending which ML is tested.

Hodgdon’s shows loads for H and IM 4198 so you guys could use that data.
