458wm to 458 lott (africa)

I bought a CZ550 in .458WM and found it didn't feed the shells very well. Maybe it was due to the huge magazine of the CZ, I dunno?

Anyway, I always thought the Lott cartridge made more sense, for I had mine reamed to accept the Lott cartridge. David Henry did mine.

Reamed out to the longer Lott cartridge, my rifle cycles smoothly now.

I have Chrony'd loads in the 2450fps range, with 500gr bullets.

I remember that rifle.

I did some measuring and ill need a bigger mag box for the Lott. I'm assuming there will be quite a bit of work to alter that. New mag new floor plate and cut out the wood to make it fit? I don't want to cut the wood all that much. The action is an interarms mark X. A 500 gr bullet seated to the cannulure cycles perfectly but it's extremely close to the edge of the box. Would that zastava have a longer mag box?

You shouldn't need a new floor plate but the front of the mag box would have to be cut out and an extension welded or soldered in so that the box ends up about 3.6" long. For the modified bottom-metal to fit into the stock, some wood would have to be removed.

More importantly, the rear of the feed ramp would have to be ground back so that the ramp is flush with the front of the mag box. Some gunsmiths are ok with removing metal from the ramp. Others aren't. There is a concern that the removal of metal from the ramp weakens support for the bottom bolt lug.

If possible, take a look at the bottom metal from a Zastava .375 H&H to see what I'm talking about.
