45ACP and 9mm

What would be a good powder choice for the 45 using 230gr cast and the 9mm with 124gr cast? W231 seems pretty good. Opinions?

If you can get it easy. I use IMR HI-SKOR 700X only because that is what leBarons carries. Good for 9,38,357,45.

i've used 231 exclusively for years - and it's what wholesale carries most of the time- you can use it for most medium caliber cartridges- 9, 38, 357, 45, 44 mag, ( although it's not the best in mag cases)

231 is a good medium speed powder. I prefer IMR7625 because it is a bit slower and bulkier and more obvious if I double charge a case.

Promo is a budget price powder,8lb container, great for lots of cheap shooting. I use this for my cast loads in 9mm and 45.

Try Winchesters WST. Good, cheap, fast (like bullseye) and meters very well. I get mine from Higginsons.

PROMO is King!

I use PROMO almost exclusively for 38special, 9mm and 45acp. Even 40.
It is a very energetic powder and very economical. Ask me about my loads.
Promo is like RedDot, a fast burning powder that is suitable for most pistol calibers. The nice people at Alliant also make a bulk powder similar to PROMO called ClayDot. Also very nice for most pistol applications.
PROMO is only sold in 8 pound containers for C$90.00. That's about 12.50 a pound. Promo is my go-to powder. Everyone else's is way more expensive...

This works great in my 9mm and .45 reloads. 124 gr (9mm) and 230 gr (.45) roundnose lead bullets.

lebaron doesn't sell bullseye.

they do sell, w231/hp38, tightgroup, h110/w296, and a bunch of others, just a matter of stock.

and unless you measure each load don't use 700x what a horrible powder to feed for such small loads (9mm anyway)

I have some 231, but may pick up some Promo. Sounds like a cheap all round powder.
