45ACP brass?

Anyone ever attempted to make 45 ACP brass from 308Win or 30-06 cases?

Sorry just a random thought I've been kicking around in my head for a while, the sizes are fairly close and you may be able to get away with it. Never tried it though, so do so at your own risk.

Was sizing up 100 308Win cases I just got and it came to my head again.

Gunnar over at Armco makes his 45-08 cartridge from 308 brass. It provides far more strength for his high pressure loads. Not sure if he is still working on that project.

Yes he is still doing this. You will have to shave down the inside of the case inorder for the 45 bullet to fit. The rest I don't know so contact Gunnar and he might be inclined to give some of his trade secrets but I doubt it. You never know it is always worth the try.

I'm just thinking out loud, because I don't actually own any firearms chambered in any 45 caliber, nevermind a pistol or carbine chambered in 45ACP.

But glad to know I am not crazy and someone else thought of this too.

It can be done, but as mentionned, the inside of the case will be way too thick, and reaming would be necessry.

Interesting. Well I sized and primed my first 100 cases (308Win). Going to load the powder and bullets tommorrow.

Is 45-08 straightwalled? I'm guessing they'd trim it down then fireform, and then the neck reamed. Be some mighty powerful brass, how does it compare to 45 super?
