45acp enfiled - looking more like an enfield

Anyhow, I have this 45acp 4mk1 enfield conversion (no collectible enfields or parts of were hurt in the making of this rifle, trust me) that I wanted to give a more refined, more original look.

Now, I'm looking for ideas on what to do with that muzzle device. It's too modern. I'm looking for suggestions on 45cal muzzle devices. Or should I just put a thread protector on?
 
Or a fake suppressor, to evoke the DeLisle Carbine (even though that had an internal suppressor, was a No.1 Mk III* and looked very different).

Not sure where I can get something like that - the barrel is threaded 5/8x24 so it has to be something that will work with that thread. Inland uses a threaded cone flash hider for their M1 carbine but I haven't seen just the flash hider for sale.

The other difficulty is the inner diameter - I suppose anything can be reamed out to accommodate the 45 cal bullet?
 
Nice job but, as others have commented, that modern flash hider doesn't belong. It would look better without it or a more period style of flash hider/suppressor. Could you get a thread protector to replace the flash hider? I bet it shoots nice, little or no recoil I would imagine.

Yeah, I hate that flash hider too, but that's how it came to me. A thread protector is my last resort...

I wonder how well a g28 ptr flash hider will fit - it looks less modern... but I suspect I will need to ream it out...

I've only shot it with the 45acp I reload for webleys - very mild, but they are mild reloads.
 
I put this on just for s_ts and giggles (it's a 308 brake so won't work)

Funny thing is that it looks lots better even though it's still a modern brake... so I think it's the thickness of the original flash hider it that makes it ugly.

Do you know anyone that can turn one on a lathe for you? Your other option would be to cut the one you have on there just behind the slots, make a thread protector of sorts. Easy enough to cold blue or paint flat black.
 
I just ordered a flash hider, but smooth and .75 long... Cheap solution, still wondering if a flash hider might look nicer :)

I agree that it would look better with a complete wood handguard. I tried but that barrel is a lot thicker than a regular enfield, I ended up thinning the wood too much... I'm considering making a handguard from scratch - then I can start with something thicker and end up with a solid one. Will need to start looking for a busted one to salvage the metal from again :)
 
I've always wanted to do this with a No.4 action and a SMLE forend, or just go through the process of making a De Lisiele carbine

Not familiar with them, can you post a link? I came up with nothing searching for a 'jc cone' on numrich's site...

Aah! You mean a jungle carbine flash hider - I'm not familiar with them - are they threaded? The barrel is already threaded 5/8x24 which presents some constraints on what will fit.
