Apples and oranges: in FMJ, .45 IS vastly superior to 9mm. In military engagements, the .45 hardball earned its reputation as a "stopper".

When you compare hollowpoint to hollowpoint, the difference is less, but .45 does still have more kinetic energy. Only a fool would CHOOSE to shoot a threat with ball ammo, BUT, of course, none of us here would actually be CHOOSING to shoot someone, right?

I'm going to have to disagree. HP ammo has its upsides. When it performs as advertised. However, ball ammo will still penetrate heavy clothing, flesh, windshield glass, and any other medium better than HP. Not to mention ball ammo feeds better than HP. Would I run HP if I were to down a threat? Sure, why not stack the deck in your favour. Would I cry if I only had ball? Not one tear. At the end of the day its only hits that count, regardless of calibre or projectile design. Success is about where you put it, not what you put there. I'm sure the compliance level of either victims or criminals is the same regardless of what style of projectile is being offered..

ETA: Neal, choosing to shoot someone is not the shooters decision to make. The mindset to defend ones life and the lives of their immediate family and/or loved ones is that of the individual, armed or not. The low life scumbag(s) who feels s/he is entitled to threaten, harm, or otherwise jeopardize the above mentioned parties is the one who decides who gets shot.

Care to tell me why?

I am pretty sure ball ammo putting two holes in one person is better than shooting someone and putting one and keeping the bullet inside of them in with hollow points. One big reason for JHP's is that ball ammo in 9 and 45 will go through and through both sides of a person most of the time and be of concern to those people who are behind the aggressor.

If I was getting into a gun fight where I new hard targets like cars/glass/wood were going to be I think most people if they would would choose ball.

Just my 2 cents.
 
Reliable often stocks Remington UMC green box JHP in 9mm, .40cal & .45acp. A lot of fiochi .45 JHP has been kicking around lately.

That's pretty cheap for hollow points.

I have 3 unused boxes of .45 Corbon DPX a good friend brought me back from his trip to a Tactical Response course in Tennessee. They were about $26.00 USD for 20.

$25.00 for 50 sounds yummy.
