Hey guys, i have tried to search for common problems however had no luck. I was recently at the CGN shooting at eesa and they brought reloaded 45acp. A few people shot out of my gun with the reloads and the reloads kept jamming. I know that the brass is expanding yet again but is there a way to stop the jamming part? It actually has a problem loading the next round in most of the time with the reloads as well.

If anyone has had any luck with resolving this issue or is it something i need to live with. When i use imperial ammo it works fine ALL the time.

Thanks

Douglas

My gun : Ruger p90 semi auto 45acp!

Over all length and Bullet type, round nose, round nose flat point, are some variables that might contribute to feeding issues

It depends on what kind of jams you are getting. Usually the culprits are the overall cartridge length and the amount of powder in the reloads. My Para can not feed overly long .45 ACP reloads, but I’ve seen guys firing reloads out of 1911 Colts that wouldn't even fit in my Para magazines. There are also many reloaders who would prefer to save 0.000001 dollar in every round by loading the least amount of powder possible, even if they get a jam or 10 from time to time.

Not all guns like the same power level, once you've strayed from the standard SAMMI pressures. Those reloads might work perfectly in the guns they were developed for, but yours might just need a little bit more juice or a different bullet shape to improve feeding.

Don’t give up, reloads can be made to function properly in almost any kind of gun, you just need to find the right combination. And the right combination for the .45 ACP must be one of the easiest ones to find.

Please explain what you mean by "jamming".

-Failure to feed?
-Failure to eject?
-Failure to extract?

A more precise description will help diagnose the problem.

Try to put a round just in the uninstalled barrel of the gun. If it sits in the chamber properly, it is sized and most likely crimped properly, but if not, that's where the problem lies.

thanks alot for the replies. I have only ever run imperial ammunition through my gun. I got it used almost a year ago now. I will get some more reloads and try them out. This is where it was failing. When i fill the magizine with 5 shots say. The first would load and fire the second would get stuck trying to fit into the chamber i guess. the slide would be almost there but not quiet and it would be a ##### to try to get the round out of the gun after that. Ever since i tried the reloads that was the problem so i stopped using them.

From what i gather, it seems like the crimping may be the problem. I have never tried to reload myself but might get into it very shortly!

Canada ammo. Im not sure where the ammo came from, they were supplied at stormbringers eesa gun intro a few weeks ago. Is there somewhere i can get reloads locally in toronto? Not one of the storms i frequently visit carry any reloads.

cheers
Douglas

if you have calipers take an oal of the factory and compare it to the reloads also check the crimp on the reloads my guess would be there.

Yep, sounds like either bad crimp, too long COL or too large a bullet (it happened to me with some mediocre Excel FMJ RN bullets).

Yep... easiest way to check if it's a problem (your ammo) is to buy some retail ammo and see what happens. If it works, it's your ammo.

Also, use a retail cartridge and drop it in the chamber by hand (barrel removed) to compare what your ammo should feel like when you drop it in the chamber.

The cartridge should be a loose in the chamber and "plop" down into the chamber with authority (not slide down, then come to a rest).
