I see in the States there are quite a few manufacturers of cast bullets that sell them with the gas check already installed, I haven't found any in Canada, does anybody know of any?

I'm going to be reloading 460 S&W soon and would like to be able to shoot hard cast instead of jacketed to keep costs down.

I'm not sure how fast you can run the gas checked hard cast bullets, but I have shot them at 1750fps with no problems. I have not tried their newer design, but have shot hundreds of their older 405gr gas checked bullets. Accuracy was quite good.

Chris.

Yep I realized after the fact that you were probably talking about a 45-70. I'm stuck in 45 acp mode and couldn't for the life of me figure why you would use gas checks to shoot 850fps :)

I use a Lee 312-155-r mold (for 7.62x39), both the one with the lube groove and the tumble lube versions, for 7.62x54r and .303 British, and have pushed them around the 2300 mark using HARD cast bullets, hard lube (Golden Dragon from gator gas checks) and Gator gas checks. The weights actually end up being about 165-168 instead of 155, and 171-174 instead of 160 when it's all said and done.

They cost me about 3.3 cents each though...
