.45LC revolver

If by modern, you mean double action, both Ruger and Smith & Wesson (perhaps others) make them in 45lc. Sometimes a little tough to find but they are out there.

There might be a single action where you can change complete cylinders.
Something like the gun in Josey Wales .. lol

Look for a Smith and Wesson model 25 Classic, beautiful blued .
Ruger SuperRedhawk in 454 handles 45 as well.

Wasn't it in Pale Rider?

That's a Remy 58 and the OP already has experience with thumb busters. ..he wants a modern 45LC. Gots to read the entire post;)
Ya but.. he said cowboy action.
What self respecting cowboy uses moon clips. Ha ha
May as well go all Dirty Harry.

Ruger makes the 45acp/45LC SA revolver in stainless. Unless you are going "Cowboy" it is the most versatile factory gun made right now. I have one and it is a VG shooter. Using 200 gr SWC bullets I have developed a load in each a=caliber that shoots to the same POA which makes swapping cylinders less annoying as there is no need to adjust the sight.

Uberti makes a version of the SAA that swaps cylinders as well.

Revolvers generally do not need *moon clips* as their cartridges have a rim for the extractor to push against. Where so-called moon clips are used in revolvers, they are for rimless cartridges like 9mm or 45acp.
45 Colt cases have a rim than needs no moon clips to work. The Winchester 1873 lever rifle could not accommodate 45 Colt ammo as the rim was too small. I shudder to once again explain that there is no cartridge named 45 Long Colt as it is a 45Colt. Colt has never, ever, not once ever roll marked any SAA in so-called 45 LC.
The 45 LC controversy vs the S&W American has been settled prior to 1900. 45 LC is like saying 44 Mag is 44 caliber. Look it up rube.

Hatman give us all a break ...please. It was common back in the day to refer to the 45 Colt as the Long Colt vs the shorter Schofield round, and later the 45 Government. You have proven your in depth knowledge of the subject and your no doubt lengthily study on the subject. Thanks!

You know doubt will correct anyone using the term "cilp" when referring to magazines, forgetting of course the terms were interchangeable prior to the 1950's. God help anyone referring to the mags as clips...

For me it is just force of habit, I have a 41 LC which was, wait for it, longer than the Short Colt. I never saw a head stamp in 45 Short Colt but I do have the mold for same and loads for the shorter version as well.

Had the Ruger Redhawk, loved it and regret selling it. If I recall it used moon clips for 45acp. Personally I don’t get using 45acp and 9mms in revolvers and found moon clips to be more trouble than they are worth

Faster reloads with the moon clips for most would be the only advantage other than it allows the use of rimless cartridges in a revolver. Helped out the war effort in WW1 and WW11.

This is my S&W Model 25 Classic. It is my second one. Had to send the first one back. S&W still has QC issues, unfortunately. However, this one is a keeper. Beautiful trigger, very accurate with CamPro 250 gr. bullets. Although it shoots 45 Colt only. Definitely recommend this revolver. I would have bought the Redhawk if it had a longer barrel, not a fan of the 4" Redhawks. We were shooting at 40 yds the other day, standing, and you couldn't miss. Tenda has one at the moment.

^^ I would strongly recommend the newly manufactured M25 Classic from S&W if you don’t mind the Hilary hole.

I personally have the older dash 9 version of the M25 with the endurance package, these were only made in 1990 in very low numbers. If you can locate one, jump on it, they have the reputation to be the most accurate 45 Colt wheel guns made by S&W ever. As a matter of fact, this one is more accurate than any .45 Colt revolvers I owned/shot, more so than my last Colt Anaconda in .45 Colt which speaks volume, that Anaconda was impressive.
