Hello and good day!

Had some time tonight to do some reading.

Wanted to try some new lubes on the market aside from my staple Weapon Shield.

So I did some searching for info and resources....I stumbled onto this guy who tested 46 brands early this year.

I was surprised about the results of Hornady One Shot and WD-40 Specialist.

Frog Lube did very well.

For your entertainment.......

Consider the variables being tested before you get too excited.

Some heavy epoxy paints develop a greasy surface layer after curing and have extremely low coefficients of sliding friction afterwards on account of the grease and smooth surface.

They would outperform everything tested here in the corrosion department.

How do you feel they would do for gun lube?

Interesting.

I'll still use ballistol for storage and nlgi 0, 1 and 2 grade greases for lube, and likely use far too much.

I like the static friction test. It showed very interesting results.

Too bad there wasn't a bearing load test to determine how long the slickest lube lasts.

WD-40 ranked near the top of the static friction test but I know for a fact it won't last 100rds in the slide rails of a semi pistol.

My trusted Weapon Shield ranked last and second last in this category. But from experience, I can go 3 range trips with the slide rails of my 1911 still smooth and glistening with a thin layer of this stuff.

Definitely an interesting and comprehensive write-up. May look at picking up a bit of frog lube to try, but I'll continue also using Ballistol for maintenance.

I saw similar results a few years back and switched everything over to Frog Lube, except my red rifles which get a steady diet of corrosive. I'm happy to report everything runs great!

Only caveat is I'm on the Wet Coast... Most complaints about Frog Lube seem to stem from poor cold weather performance, and my substantial mortgage insulates me from such hardship...

Hum, gonna order another case of Froglube, i knew it was up there, a lot of TLC for my firearms... JP.

Where do you guys pick up ballistol? I've been wanting to get some but I never see it anywhere...

Ammosupply.ca usually has some. I've received a few free samples in my orders (thanks ammosupply). I personally can't get over the smell. And I also notice in high humidity environments it seems to absorb water and form an opaque paste which worried me a little but lots swear by it and it has been used for decades so no doubt it is a good product.

G96 Triple Action + 5w30 Synthetic

Get a large can of the g96 and a liter of oil and you'll be good for a long time, even when going to the range 3-4x a week. Couple of spray here, few drops there...done.

yup same here.G96 and Amzoil 5-30, same stuff I run in my truck. 1ltr goes a looooooooooooooooooooooooong way.

Wow - good read ....

I gotta agree with a couple of the guys - waaaay too many variables for anything definitive.

As always, real world applications yield different results.

I'm with the writer of the post (DIY Guy) - you couldn't pry Weaponshield out of my cold dead hand!

I was considering try something else to be top sure but after reading that, there is not reason not to use FL, it is in the top shelf ones with some others... JP.
