.460 smith and wesson - "what are you gunna hunt with that?"

I also own both - the .500 can be loaded mild to wild 275gr all the way to 725gr

The .460 I'm trying to source 535gr moulds.

I love the bullet flexibility of the 500, but love the speed and cartridge flexibility of the 460

My 460v is absolutely my favorite gun. Some of us Albertans should plan a handgun down to MT.

.500.. bah!

It isn't really much of a drive, is it? Certainly worthwhile just to actually carry a handgun in the wilderness without being assaulted by a swat team.

A good ol pig hunt with a 460v would be incredible

That would be a fantastic experience.

The recoil wasn't too bad when I shot one. The heat coming back at my face was impressive!

It feels like its burning your eye brows off. My first shot ever really shocked me with the heat blast.

Some shots its like getting punched in the nose.

Go to the Mountain Molds web site and design your own mould. I have three of his moulds for my 500 S&W and they are excellent quality.

When you ladies get used to your 460's you can move up to the 500's with us men!:p

###y... I like the 460v 'cause it went, Restricted, to Prohibited, to Restricted, to Prohibited... then finally Restricted again :D

Apparently the rifling and the removable compensator were a grey area but common sense prevailed ;)

Nice gun!

Tell the next guy that asks "what yer huntin" that you are licensed with an ATC for remote wilderness area defense against wild animal attacks so "unfortunately even though it is illegal to hunt in Canada with a handgun you can shoot any freaking animal that comes to close"... ;)

This might be old news but Ruger makes a No. 1 in 460 S&W, kind of interesting if you reload that caliber already I think.

Geez, gonzo! Searched his posts, this one, and a picture with the F-bomb shopped into, were all that is still out in the open anyway that seemed a little risque. I must've missed something, I suppose.

Ironic, though, that a guy with a 460v, calls a 500, a penile device. Personally, I'd rather have all the biggest firearms, and be average sized, than the biggest guy on the planet, with only a single shot 22.

I have a couple of higher priority irons of acquisition in the fire at present but down the line, a 460 is on the list. I do have a 500 S&W and to say the least, it's a handful.

I have and shoot a good variety of cast bullets from 345gr - 440gr as well as a selection of jacketed from a modified variation of the Speer 325gr - the Hornady 500gr. It can be a little punishing which is why I've opted to settle for a set of custom grips. Serves to spread the pain over a bigger area. I will say, anything I've put through it shoots well.

I wouldn't mind a SS lever action rifle in that caliber but so far:rolleyes: I haven't been able to 'successfuly' make arrangements with a producer in the Alaska area, or their Canadian distributer

I was looking for a 629 at Williams Arms and the guy handed me a 460 to look at too. I picked it up and said it was cool but I already think the 44mag is too much gun already and we both laughed.

I bought the 629 and enjoying it a lot. I reload my own cast lead bullets with 3 different loads. I rapid fired magnum loads once. I don't think I'm going just do it once a year. I offered a bunch of club members to fire a shot or two. The reaction they get after the hammer drop is classic. :) I one handed a bunch of magnum loads and the recoil goes above my head (why fight it)... Someone said, damn, you trying to be Dirty Harry. lol

460 or 500 is definitely too much gun for me. Although, I would love it if someone let me fire a shot of each one!

After a healthy diet of magnum loads, I go back to my P226 and it feels like shooting 22lr and I get bored. I haven't shot my P220 in 22lr since I bought my 629. The 44mag is my favourite gun now. I shoot special loads too and they're very pleasant and super accurate.

BTW, nice video!
