Guys, I usually have no problem getting close to refining a load but this gun is driving me nuts.
I have owned several 22-250s over the years and replaced the one I have 2 years ago with a new CZ 550 varminter, Nice looking gun, Didi not cheep out on the scope, put a VX III 6x20 40 mm on her with rock solid CZ rings, that are wierd but what ever, they work!
I started off with my old pet load of IMR 4895 with 53 gr SMKs Fbs, 52 gr SMK bts, 55 gr Vmax, and tried some Amaxes as well. ( started at 34.5 gr of powder) went up in .5s to 37.0 , sat the bullets off the lands and went to town. Had one promissing group in around 1 inch but thought it odd that it would not be better. The next outing tried H 4895, and Varget, seating just off the lands with no better luck I ended up with groups from 1.5 to 1 inch.
I went out again on a calmer day, and had the same results with my earlier promissing load??

Well taday I tries new Powder, H 380??? I dont get this gun Like I say udually you find something you can work with but this one will not give me a break.
the only other thing to try is jumping the back off the lands 20-60 thous, and try this?

Any suggestions are welcome guys, I am searching for something?
The cases were full sized, some bumped, some collet die sized, I cleaned the gun spotless and shot it fouled, about 160 rounds through it.

the 22-250 has a reputation for being easy to load, and that's been my experience as well. I'd suspect there's something up with your particular rifle

Yes prosper I agree!
I am very shocked as well, and the ones I had before would shoot at least 1 moa even with bad ammo!

I have only one thing left to try? And thats moving the Ogive back off the lands, but i suspect it wont make the world of difference.

I love the rifle! Dont love the results.

With less than 200 rounds its hard to count it out yet!

It seems not to make a world of difference what I do to it!
Today I was very disapointing with a 2 " groups appearing!

Yes Rob, I do have a box laying around thats going with me, and forgot them this time round.
I felt very good at the bench today shooting wise, and usually pull off a bit better than 2" groups, but hey I wont rule thet out! As for th ereloads, very careful, with them, following the books of accurate reloading, but wont rule the reloading out either!
As for bench mark powder, I do have some kicking around to try!

I am not sure how much Jumping the lands will help but ? Its worth a try.

I am baffled with this gun?

This may be a long shot but this is what I found when loading for my stevens 200 22-250.

I had a terrible time getting anything to group under two inches at 100. I rececked the scope and mounts, retorqued the stock, etc, etc.

I had tried 50gr, 55gr, 60gr vmaxs, 52gr Amaxs, 50 and 55 spsx's and varget, imr 4895, and h380 powders with no luck.

Finally I got a hold 40gr Vmaxs. With all the above powders I couldn't get more than an inch at 100 if I tried. It was ridiculously easy to load for after that.

Perhaps you just haven't found the right bullet wieght yet?

Go with the 40 grain Nosler BT! I made the mistake of running a heavier bullet this summer over last, and wasn't pleased at all with the results. I'm just going to burn off the last of my stock at the range and on coyotes that may wander into my line of sight, and rework a load for the 40s.

reminds me of my CZ 527 in 221 Fireball. Finicky and inconsistent. Although I havent done a whole lot of tinkering wiht the loads, and havent touched the rifle's bedding at all..

Well I will take your word that the 40 grainer may work, I am going with one powder charge and same bullet 40 gr bullet,
Of IMR 4895, start on the lands and move off 5 thou with every lot!
than when I find the best group I will change the powder charge.

I usually start with the same bullet and different load charges, but I am going to mix it up LOL!

But IMR 4895 has always worked!

I sure hope the thing shoots! maybe? Maybe not???

So far the 550 is very disapointing,

What are you guys using for pwders with your 40 gr bullets, the old standbys, 4895/varget/380??

Are you trying different OAL. I usually decide on which powder and how much and vary the seating depth of the bullet. I have found it alot easier to find an accurate load this way. I think OAL has alot more impact on accuracy then powders.

Ken Waters lists 32/IMR3031 with a 52gr (I think) as a target load. I tried it in my 22/250 and found it to be very accurate and consistent.

If I bought another 22/250, that's where I would start.
