I'm looking for a 4x scope that is fairly cheap and holds its zero well. Also a decently wide field of view is a plus. Any suggestions?

Edit: didn't really think about my post. I'll be using it on a drill less mount on a Parker-Hale No4 Standard .303 for elk, moose and predator control. 4x is good for distances I'm comfortable shooting animals at and I like the simplicity, and a cheap rifle and pricey optics makes no sense.

4X is all I use for hunting -even on my variable 2-7x .I like old 4x M-8 Leupolds and have a couple of Bushnell Scopechiefs in 4 X

i got 2 4x and one 6x for hunting. used is not bad (all 3 were). IMO weaver is the best fixed power scope. "K" series. they come in 4,6,8 power. crystal clear and tough as nails.
my 6x has been holding is own with 1"groups for a year now and never needed agdusting. i shoot about 20rounds a month out of that one.

I think Leupold discontinued the fixed M8 scopes? I used one for 25 years on all sorts of BG and as my eyes aged to shoot MOA on paper I went to 3x9's Didn't effect the hunting any..........Harold

You can still find old M8s out there if you look and get lucky. I haven't used one of the new ones but they're probably comparable. You can probably pick up a good used 4x for cheap which is just right for the rifle you're using.

I've bought 5 leupold M8's off the EE, haven't paid more than $200 yet. IMO the 4x33 are the best, but I do have a couple 4x28's as well.

I think a Weaver K4 is a good answer for your needs.

I have several old steel U.S. made Weavers, K2.5 and K4 and they are robust, reliable scopes. They have worked well on my old Enfields and they look very right on them, too.

I have also acquired a couple of the current Japanese made alloy scopes from the new Weaver company. They are a V9 Classic (3-9x38) and a K4 and I am impressed with these, too. I have them on my Handi-Rifle, the V9 on a .223Remington barrel for coyotes and the K4 on a .308Winchester barrel for big game.

The Weaver 4x are decent, and if you step up a notch, get the Leupold FXII 4x33m scope.

I like the Leupold 4x33mm better than the VXII 3-9x40. It's brighter, clearer, focuses closer, and allows a bit more precision for me. Pitted against a VX3 or a Zeiss I don't know, but I'd take it or the 6x36 over most VXIIs.
