In Ontarion all "quads" operators need helmets
My question is on sidexside Atvs with roll cages and seat belts are Helmets mandatory??
They are more kin to Jeeps etc.
Any clues??? JITC:jerkit:

Their still considered an all terrain vehicle, no? I would think unless it's licensed and registered as a Jeep, it would still be an ATV in the eyes of the law. Besides, why mess with yours and your loved ones safety? It's a simple way to make sure you get home safe at the end of the day.

Helmets and clear instruction to keep you hands inside at all times!

We used to race those Honda Odysseys and did time trials for practice in some pretty wild terrain.

A hard roll at high speed will bend a stock cage and ANY rollover at most speeds will ring yer head off the roll bars.
I have a brother that needed his fingers put back on with stainless pins because centrifugal force got his hand outside and the cage rolled over it ripping his fingers off.
If you dump or roll hold on tight!
Belts and bars can't be trusted to save you from yourself...Law or not wear a helmet.
JMO ;)

Having internal oh#### handles is good too, preventing a similair situation to rockeye's brother's. People will always grab the cage in a roll if you don't have well thought out oh#### handles. Bmx bike handlebars work well.

No person shall drive an off-road vehicle or ride on an off-road vehicle or on a conveyance towed by an off-road vehicle unless he or she is wearing a helmet that complies with the regulations, securely fastened under his or her chin with a chin strap. R.S.O. 1990, c. O.4, s. 19 (1).
Idem
(2) This section does not apply to a person driving or riding on an off-road vehicle or on a conveyance towed by an off-road vehicle where the owner of the off-road vehicle is the occupier of the land. R.S.O. 1990, c. O.4, s. 19 (2).

Note that the owner of the ORV must be the occupier of the land...in other words - your friends riding on your land still have to wear a helmet.

I don't want to sound like Mr Scardy Pants but I have a friend with years of experience with motorbikes(racing) and quads. A couple of years back he had an accident on his quad. Nothing much, just going over a small rise and throatled just a bit much to get over a small hump and lost control. Short storey is he smashed his head so badly he almost bled to death. As for me, I know it'll never happen. But just in case, I'd wear the helmut, it doesn't have to happen twice, once is enough.

If you don't have anything to protect, a helmet is a waste of time and money. For those of us that think we may have something to protect we wear them at all times.

Well said! I wear mine all the time on the bike... on the road, or private property. My kids are the same way, helmet is manditory all the time. On bicycle or ATV...it doesn't matter. Safety 1st.

When running my buggy on my own land, I don't often wear a helmet, but it has a full windshield, roll cage and track certified 5-point harnesses. If I'm going for a hard run, on goes the dunce cap, full face so you get to keep the chicklets.

Racing MX and HS there is a saying that you dress for the crash not the ride....Things like quads or side by sides I think give a false sense of security regarding stability particularly off camber...

Around the farm...I never wear a helmet. But I'm not out pulling wheelies, and jumping ditches...I'm riding at 10-15 km/h looking at/for stuff.

For me, it is a PITA. R:d:

Hmmm. Nobody is admitting to be the guy with the ball cap on backward, short, flip-flops, and the manditory cooler of beer tarp strapped to the front rack.:D Used to see lots of them in the trails in northern Sask.

I will confess...

1. hat on backwards: sometimes
2. shorts: sure
3. flip-flops: I've done it
4. cooler of beer: yup, done that too...heading to the sugar camp, watching sap boil is thirsty business you know :D

I never wear a helmet when hunting

but then I average about 10Km/h and don't go any faster then 20Km/h and thats on a good trail.

Now off hunting season when I'm quading about then I do wear a helmet, but I still don't drive like a Jackas ;)

Idiots driving at +50km/h on bush trails, it won't matter that they have a helmet of not when they hit those trees, full body armour wouldn't help some of those idiots.
