I've asked this question on a different forum but I would like to hear from CGN readers. Who shoots a Mossberg 4x4? I read several reviews on the gun before purchasing. All reviews were positive. The consensus was that workmanship was rough (to be expected in an entry level firearm) but the rifle shot well. I'm interested to find out if that is the case. My rifle is chambered in 7 Rem Mag if that makes a difference.
Thanks

I've shot a buddy of mines in 300 Wm. Was not impressed. I believe mossberg made a mistake getting into the center fire rifle market

However the old howa 1500 was a nice rifle

I considered it for a while and decided it was crap. Looks flimsy and cheap, and ive heard of problems with mossberg rifles. Consider a savage axis, ruger american, or marlin xl7. All will be better than that mossberg. I know the fluted barrel and muzzle brake are mouthwatering, but you must resist the cheap shiny add ons!

Outside of the fact that the Marlin XL-7, Ruger American(coming in stainless), Savage Axis(coming with Accutrigger), and the Weatherby Vanguard S2-Howa 1500 are all superior budget priced rifles, the Mossy 4X4 also has/had a weak hammer spring that was prone to failure.

I have a Mossberg 4x4 in .30-06 with Marinecote and laminate stock, bought it a few years back after reading positive reviews on the internet and in magazines. It was the first bolt-action rifle I bought, actually. As you said workmanship is a little rough in places, there is also a lot of plastic (trigger guard, magazine) which I know some people don't like. That being said the rifle has functioned flawlessly for me after 200ish rounds down the pipe. I'm not sure about the accuracy as I haven't shot any groups with it; I've only used the bench to sight in, the rest of my shooting has been off-hand, field positions or improvised rests. It seems to hit what I aim at if I do my part. Overall I like the gun and am satisfied with my purchase.

I have one also and have no complaints. It actually replaced my Savage 110 in 30.06 as my all around hunting rifle. I do not regret my decision one bit. It's a budget firearm, period. So far I've harvested 2 moose and one whitetail buck. Works for me, actually the extras (muzzle break, fluted barrel, adjustable trigger, etc.) are what were the selling points for me over the axis. Also if I do my part, it is capable of sub MOA.

That looks like around an inch, 100 yards? Can you be a bit more specific, looks good if its at 100 yards.

Well you're in luck. Boyd's makes stocks for the 4x4.
