5.45x39

A Vz. 58 or an SKS in 5.45x39 would be an interesting gun indeed, considering 5.45x39 7N6 is extremely ballistically superior to the standard 7.62x39 round. I've fired plenty of 5.45 AK's in the US and I can tell you that they're both softer shooting and more accurate than a 7.62x39 AK or SKS.

There is SO MUCH of this ammo and it's still being churned out today in multiple places around the world. I think we're missing an opportunity by not having a nice tactical rifle in this caliber.

I know IMI is planning to put out a 5.45mm Tavor variant, I think within the year, as part of their move to production in the states. I'd be pretty interested in 5.45 in a non-restricted bullpup rifle that's for damn sure. (I'm not sure but it might even be a caliber conversion kit and we could have both? It looks easy enough with the barrel nut and so forth) :p

The Tavor 5.45x39 conversion kit from IWI US should have no trouble fitting in Canadian Tavors.

If SFRC had a line on surplus ammo, I would look at exporting one of the kits from the states post-haste.

a 858 or sks in this cal and id be all over it but at this point im looking for a sks with a bad barrel to rebarrel into a .220 russain or 6.5 grendel to use as a truck gun/coyote gun but i'll only do this to a bubba speacial or a bad bore gun

the 5.45x39 does not have the same base diameter as the 7.62x39 so its not a easy conversion for a gun in 7.62x39

but we cold get real surplus and not like the crap in the US that has to be pulled and a lead core bullet put in place

a .223/5.56 bolt head could be opened up but mags are a issue and so is feeding

the ak rifles feed straight from the mag to the chamber no reall feed ramp in the ak's and even more so for the smaller 5.45x39 this on top of lose fitting parts is why the ak is so reliable so adjustment to guns parts is need its not just a barrel swap on these guns all are load/make your own but are pretty much barrel swaps only are the .220 russain,6x39,6.5 grendel id take a NR sks or cz 858 in these any day of the week

5.45x39 would be a stretch R&D needs to be done and then put into production costly work

I can't afford any right now, but I would like to buy a case if the price is reasonable. I recall that they sell in boxes of 50 rounds, right?

As a couple of people have already mentioned, I think only people who have the XCR-L conversion kit for 5.45x39 would actually need the ammo here. But since I haven't even seen one person with it, I don't think it'd be needed unless somebody somewhere came out with a 5.45x39 vz. 58 semi or if somebody actually has one of those 5.45x39 ARs S&W came out with a while ago.
