5.56 Brake

I don't think a 223 "needs" a brake, recoil is easily controlled if you have good form but if you're competing then a good brake will help make you a little bit faster.
I've used a few of them and have found that I can't handle a brake on an AR ten inches or shorter, the concussion blast is too much for me to be comfortable shooting more than a few mags. I tried a Rainier Arms single chamber mini comp on a ten inch AR to figure that one out but it was fine on my 14.5. On a 14.5 inch or longer I'm fine with a brake so my 16 inch AR has a JP 2 chamber that works very well and keeps the reticle on target for fast second shots (it's quite loud though). My NR ACR has a Griffin flash comp which works well for slight recoil control without being too loud and since the rifle is heavier than an AR the recoil is less to begin with. My shorter rifles get a linear comp to keep the concussion away from me, no noticeable recoil reduction but pushing the sound downrange is nice.

PWS FSC556 is a very effecient one. No muzzle rise, no recoil for quick follow up shots on an AR15

I tried the FSC556 on a 10inch once before.
Felt like someone was hitting me in the face every time I shot :)

Its a great brake. But like cr5 said, they can be brutal on short barrels.

VG6 Epsilon is very effective, even on shorter barrels. I am very impressed with it and everyone I let try my 11.5" with it installed is always commenting "wow" on how effective it is.

I had a RFB with a Lantac Dragon. Worst mistake I ever did. Sold the gun but kept the brake.

Felt like getting punched in the face, body and legs....:runaway:

Everyone is out of stock on the VG6..or not bothering to restock (CTCS...). There are a few Lantac Dragons around and their supposed to be the same as the VG6 according to opinions. I've got both but haven't shot the dragon yet, but I'll let you know after Tuesday on what I think. *wink*

Fortis RED brake. (rapid engagement device) Phenomenal performance. Yes it's loud like any other brake but that's what hearing protection is for ain't it? Recoil and muzzle rise are virtually eliminated. Plus it's ###y af!

I`ll be curious to hear your thoughts.....

As its a gun part from a US based company can we legally purchase from there?

Yes, you can import from Brownells. You just order it like you would from any other online store. If your order is under $100 there is no additional paperwork required. If there is any issues with the part it will not allow you to check out

Aside from the additional concussion the average AR15 shooter wont feel the difference in brakes. Most are way over priced and a huge money grab.

I disagree with your comment. I think if you gave two ARs to someone to try, one with a A2 flashhider and another with a brake and they shot them both most would instantly notice the difference.

Edit: perhaps I misunderstood your comment. If you are talking about the difference from brake to brake that would make more sense.

Agreed. The first time I shot an AR with a Lantac Dragon on it, I noticed a profound difference.

He's saying brakes, not all available muzzle devices.
Yes, I 100% agree there is a noticeable difference between a brake, a compensator and a flash hider when it comes to felt recoil but from one brake to the next the perceivable difference is very small all other factors like barrel length and rifle weight being equal.
The more effective the brake is the more concussion it directs back towards the shooter and those standing or sitting beside him. That's why the shorter the barrel is the more you feel it in your sinuses and chest.

Effective yes, but depending on your personal level of tolerance they can be very uncomfortable to shoot after a few magazines.
I used to own a S&W 460V (5 inch revolver with built in muzzle brake) and with full power handloads of 460 it felt like a firecracker going off in my sinuses every time I pulled the trigger, fun for a while but I sold it just like I sold the Ranier Arms mini comp single chamber brake I had on my 10 inch AR, it was just too much to be comfortable during an afternoon of shooting.

Everyone has a different tolerance level to concussion blast though so what I find uncomfortable could be completely fine for someone else.
