5.56 green tip

I heard that green tips on a 5.56 round is NOT armor piercing. I looked around online and they say green tips is just a misconception for AP..... I've never seen it in real life or used it so I can't confirm.

It is technically not an armour piercing round, but by design it has a steel core which is very effective at penetrating things that regular FMJ ball does not, like mild steel. The ATF does not consider it AP by design, or by function, despite it approaching the penetration capabilities of AP rounds.

True AP rounds have a black tip.

Speaking of the M855 round, I guess Black Hills have developed a superior round designated the MK 262. ( read up in May's issue of Shooting Times).

Technically it's not steel core it's lead core with a small 17gr steel penetrater.

While the M855 has a steel 'penetrator', it is not considered true 'Armor Piercing'.

And yes, we do have PMC 5.56mm M855 1000 round cases in stock, $419 + tax.
