5.56 Muzzle devices

I have used the Miculek for a long time, sold it with my rifle. When I got a new rifle I bought the Lantac, it's amazing.

There is a downside, the faster you shoot the better it works. So if you are a slow shooter it works as good ad the Miculek, but at a faster rate it almost pushes the muzzle to the ground. I like it a lot!

That's not a good thing.

I been looking for a VG6 Gamma 556 for a long time. As I allready knew it performs at a high level. Nice to see some numbers on the muzzle devices.

Nice price point on the Precision Armament’s M4-72 Severe-Duty Compensator.
I emailed them and it appears they do not have plans to apply for the ITAR export paperwork for the Canadian market.:(

A huge list of comps. I wonder how mine would compare - S&J Hardware's tactical comp and Griffin Armament's M4 SD 2 Tactical Comp. They both seem similar. I had the S&J installed, but then also got the Griffin Armament (perhaps a waste of $150). I like the S&J. First time I fired it, I had doubts about it. The Griffin Armament seemed like it could be a better design and better steel. I haven't tried it on yet. I guess it's good to have a good "backup" or try it in a bit of time. here's a pic of the two

Another brake that I have on my 10.5 AR is very effective! but blasty. It's an older one from Dlask. It seems to resemble the Miculek design. I can't run through mags at a crowded range without giving shooters next to me some warning. It throws flames out the sides, therefore= it's fun (especially in low light conditions)

Amazing thread and with a lot of good information.

I'm really interested in that VG6 Precision Epsilon 556. Does anyone know how to get it in Canada?

Great thread!
Perhaps one way to make it even better is to add a table identifying which breaks are available in canada and who sells the.
I say this as a kid staring through the candy store window at something I can't have.

As far as shooting-guns-placed-in-a-plastic-gun-cleaning-cradle-with-a-rock-weight-and-seeing-how-far-it-slides-on-a-fold-down-6'-table type of test goes, that was a winner.

I'm all for 'doing fun sh!t with guns' and if I were in the Idaho woods, I too would be dreaming up neat, albeit retarded, stuff to do with my ARs while I was out camping.

first off, very informative review on the breaks!
Thanks for going though the paces to test every one of them for us! Very informative BUT ( I know this has been said many time before) WHERE IS THE LANTAC DRAGON?? haha. Its one of the best breaks for 5.56 (my opinion). For competition shooting, it does an amazing job at keeping the rifle on target which is a great plus when speed and precision is required. If you get the chance to , please look at the dragon! since you have so much exp with the different breaks, it would be great to have your experience on board in a review! Great job though nonetheless.
Cheers!

I think compensators do more than just reduce recoil. Sporting and competition shooters probably place at least equal value on recoil reduction and sight stability. (I'd say more on stability but that's just me) brakes often get evaluated on their ability to reduce recoil but especially in a .556 this isn't too much of an issue. Anyway, when choosing a brake, I'd say look at stability as well and I thought this article is very well done:

Just too throw my two cents in for any tavor owners reading this. I've never really had the need for brakes or compensators using tradition style 5.56 rifles but when I got my tavor I found it too be a little jumpy and my double tap spread was huge compared to normal rifles (non bull pup)

Did some research and decided on the rainer arms compensator. Muzzle jump is virtually zero now and my double tap groups are very tight. I'd recommend this piece of kit 1000 times over.
