5.56 NATO in .223 Remmington?

Probably been asked a million times before but what will happen if I shoot 5.56 NATO in a firearm chambered in .223 Remmington?

What happens? Probably nothing out of the ordinary... but if you have to ask, don't do it.

Although in most cases its no issue either way. But if you don't want to chance your safety especially if you have tight specs on the firearm then

Shoot 223 out of a 556 firearm no problem
Don't shoot 556 out of a 223 firearm, usually no issue but not worth finding out

Not good in a standard minimum throated SAAMI chamber. But I doubt that in this day and age any manufacturer is using a minimum throat in a 223. Savage, for example, use a SAAMI chamber and a NATO throat. don't know about the other makers.

Its no problem to shoot 223 in a 5.56 chambered gun, but you shouldn't shoot 5.56 in a 223 chambered gun. You can shoot 5.56 in a 223 wylde chambered gun.

This seems to have only become a problem since the US stopped allowing guns with "5.56" stamped on them out of their country.

Jennis is correct. Reminds me of people saying you can't CQB with a 1.25x optic, it must be tru 1x.

everytime you shoot a nato 5.56 bullet out of a .223 rifle, god kills a fluffy kitten. so please dont do it.

I CQB'd with the CF's 3.4x Elcan just fine a couple of times...

Me too. 4x is no issue for me, even at 5 feet. Keep both eyes open.
