I have a Bushnell AR Optics 1-4 scope on my VZ58 but the reticle is for a 5.56 round :/ Unfortunately it does not come in a 7.62 x 39 variety so I was wondering how the 5.56 reticle can be used to compensate for bullet drop for the 7.62 caliber. I know the 5.56 has a much flatter trajectory and realistically I will most likely not be shooting over 400 meters with my VZ58.

You are just going to have to shoot it using the. 556 reticle and document the actual POI of your 7.62 round as it compares to where the scope tells you the. 556 should be hitting. Remember that not all ammo provides the same results and the reticle wouldn't be exact science across the board for all 556 rounds. So figuring out your dope for the 7.62 ammo would be similar to changing 556 ammo such as different manufacturers or bullet weights and having to compensate for the different trajectory.

Okay, lets try some quick math together.

Is this your reticle?

Well here's hoping that's not your reticle. That 200 yard mark is somewhat messed up. And it seems Bushnell isn't actually looking to publish the MOA data behind their reticles. Which is a rediculous oversight.

If you really want to make it work, send me a PM and we can figure it out. But check out this thread on arfcom relating to the Bushnell AR reticles: https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=621731

No such thing as a reticle for a specific cartridge. 'AR Optics ' and 'BTR-1' are marketing terms. Like rascal1 says, sight in then note where the POI is with the other aiming points.
The actual "MOA data"(Which reticle has nothing to do with much of anything anyway.) will change every time you change bullet weights and loads. BDC scopes used to come with a dial to use with Handloads, but the whole BDC concept never has worked as advertised.

Yes that is the reticle I have. I should have posted the image in the first post, thank you.

Thank you for the ideas guys. I would like to know, however, if there is a trajectory comparison chart between a standard military 7.62 fmj and a 5.56 fmj. That way I can estimate roughly where to hold based on the reticle markings.

And like rascal1 said I'll just have to see the poi at different distances using the ar reticle. Not really interested in investing in another scope at this point I like the bushnell, it's great for TAC rifle matches.

Thanks again guys.

My experience with a C7 rifle, C79 scope and C77 ammo was that the expected ballistics were pretty rough. At some ranges we were out several MOA. And this was with a matched system. Hoping your reticle matches an unknown barrel length, bullet weight, height over bore etc is a fools game. I would recommend shooting the reticle in to see what ranges correspond to what range after your initial zero.
