Information needed here, I have tried Google machine and come up empty handed. I plan on loading 5.56mm bulk and have a 2000 lot of IVI brass.

I have found no info on decent loads, with the thicker brass IVI uses.

Rifle:
BCM Recce-18
1:8 twist
18" barrel

Bullet of choice is 55g FMJBT CAMPRO or Hornady to keep cost down.

Good bullets and brass for plinker ammo.

Load with the Start load with the powder of your choice and then load 10 of each in 0.5 gr increments, all the way to Max.

Shoot them off a rest. Cool between strings.

See what cycles 100% and choose on basis of accuracy.

How does the weight of your IVI brass compare with the weight of the brass you have been using?

Have fun removing the primer crimps on 2000 cases...

Here's my plinking recipe for 55gr campro's out of my 16" plinking AR, and my 18" Match AR.

I only shoot these out of my 18" Match gun to zero scopes, and occasionally foul/warm her up, and I get amazing groups.

Campro 55gr
25.0gr IMR 8208 XBR
1.750 Trim / 2.250 OAL
WSR Primers
PMC or LC Brass

Cheers

I’m going to swage 1500 IVI for my Moder Varminter.

So the IVI can be loaded, same as I’ve been loading my Hornady, win,RP brass?
Or do I have to adjust my loads because of the thicker IVI brass?

Thank for the tips,

IVI brass is thicker, and from others say take your regular load and decrease by 10% then work back up.

Have not used IVI or the CAMPRO before, and its a new rifle. My first AR

With a trim of 1.750 and an OAL of 2.260, you miss the cannelure don't you?

I would say yes, but you would need to confirm with your mags. As an example; CPD 10 round mags can take 2.280-2.285, but CPD 30/5 round mags can't fit 2.270's

There's a large variation between mags and manufacturers.
I loaded some 55 g varmaggedon(2.260) last night, they just barely cleared my BEO mags.

But I’m gonna measure later tonight.

Honestly, for plinking rounds I don't see a point in loading longer then you can reliably feed. I really only adjust my match loads, while doing load development.

2.260 would easily fit in any of the mags I own, but I've never owned a beo mag. Always better to test things.

Cheers.

Right on, I’ll start with my current load (25.1 Varget) and reduce by 10% and work back up.

Just weight the IVI case and compare to the other brass you use. I expect you will find the weight similar.

As for length, I load my ammo 2.250 max, to guarantee feeding out of a variety of mags i use.

Making them have a shorter OAL.

Here’s a pic of the new and correct measurements.

My 2.260 varmageddon cartridges just barely fits, in the ATRS mag.

View attachment 147509View attachment 147510I made a mistake in my mag OAL dimensions.

They’re more than I thought.
Sorry.

You're measuring the outside of your mags, which doesn't take into consideration wall thickness. Do not seat to those lengths.

If you're trying to load as long as possible for reliable mag feeding, load 2-3 at say 2.300, and work your way down. Plastic mags need thicker walls for support, so generally metal mags will allow a longer cartridge OAL. Plastic mags allow cutting out the front easier though for even longer OAL's... but that's an idea for another day. Just start with the basics.

Cheers.

No, I measured inside, I just turned the calliper around for the pic.

But I did realize that there’s a small ridge inside the mag, that the cartridges bring up on.

At first glance it appears the mag OAL is longer than it really is.

My second pics are true dimensions.
