5.7x28 Reloading

There doesn't seem to be a topic about this, judging from the search (sorry if there is)

So, anyone participate in reloading 5.7? I'm hoping to get into reloading 5.7x28 soon. I can find the dies and she'll holders just fine, but brass and bullets are another battle.

The only place I can find the bullets themselves is Questar. Minimum is a crate of 2000 rounds for 1600. (Good rate for canadian importing.) I'll probably just have to purchase that eventually, but I would like to see if reloading is also an option.

Anyone know any places to obtain some reloading supplies for 5.7x28 in canada?
 
I'm pretty sure I got my brass from the EE and I used 40gr vmax bullets. Can't remember the powder type or weight. One thing I did read was to use an ultrasonic cleaner because the brass has a coating on it that a tumbler will remove.
 
Good tip. Didn't know about the coating. I've heard about the 40 grain is the most common for reloading. Apparently you can get 35 and 45 grain but it is semi rare.
 
Didn't know that 5.7 uses .224 bullets same as .223 rounds lol. Anyway did some searching and it seems the boys on the ar15 forums have a decent idea of what they are doing. Comments are a bit old, but should still help. (take my opinion for what it's worth, I load 223 and 9mm but that's it lol).

These rounds seem a bit complicated to hand load. Very precise attention to the shoulder, and the coating on the casing as well, needs to be take seriously it seems.

I load 5.7 x 28 mm for my FsN. I get my brass from once fired boxes of ammo that I buy. I've seen them at Cabela's and Bass Pro pretty much every time I went this year. The biggest thing I can really say about the 5.7 is that it has very tight tolerances. Also, both the FsN and the P90 seem to be very hard on the cases... due to the blowback design, the shoulder experiences very high deformation. For that reason... I don't really trust brass that I don't know its history.

As for bullets, as mentioned, it uses a .224 caliber. Same as the .223 Rem... very easy to source, they're everywhere. The FNH brand ammo is made with a 40 gr hornady V-Max, and they are a boat-tail... so no worries there.

Powder, there's various recipes that can be found for pistol powders. But those powders are very hard to come by... I think someone was selling HS-6 on the EE... that's definitely a good powder for it. But powder is another area where the tolerances are tight. It doesn't take much, and it operates at high velocities and high pressure.

As for the coating... I hear it's most important for feeding in the design of the P90. I can't really confirm that at all... I do know that I've tumbled off the lacquer on my reloads to no adverse affect in the FsN.
