Even though I had the crosshairs on a few of them I didn't pull the trigger. I was hunting on private family land, from a tree stand, with a 12 ga shotgun, rifled slugs (until the last day).

All on day 1... First buck shows up at 10 yards, but he is tiny, my dog was probably bigger, so I gave him a pass.

Next two does, not huge pass by right under the stand on my right, not a great shot so I let them pass.

Next three deer at 20 yards, one doe followed by two of the dopiest yearlings I have ever seen. While mom was searching around for danger, those kids were frolicking. I let them pass. I saw them again on Day 3.

The one I wanted, passed by right next to the tree on my right side, his back looked like a horse, and his rack was huge. I couldn't get my gun around fast enough, and this guy was smart and never stopped moving, continuing off to my right so all I had was a bad ass end shot. I just watched in awe as he made his way through the brush with that rack. Maybe I'll see him at Christmas when I have my bow. On the last afternoon I took my BIL's 44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk out, I should have taken that on Day 1, I might have had a chance.

On my drive home I was thinking about what I could have done differently, came to the conclusion that I did make the best decisions. Having a freezer full of deer from past seasons helped. I made a venison casserole when I got home.
