I figure I would give the deer hunting a rest this morning and go coyote hunting instead....
So I get to the farm at first light, got my gear walked the 400 yds or so to my setup location. I setup looking into a river bottom with a large bush directly in front of me. With some light wind coming into my face I waited a few minutes to let things settle down as it was a crunchy walk in. I began my calling sequence with a couple of coyote greeting sounds from my hand call. I waited a minute then gave a scream out with my hand caller (dying rabbit as loud as I could) for a minute and then went silent again. I waited another minute and started up my ecaller which was setup about 40-50 yds or so out and to my right. The ecaller played a dying rabbit sound for 40 secs or so and then I muted it. As I scan the terrain I look to my far left and a coyote is coming over the rise. I reposition my shooting sticks, wait for him to get in the clear. I was really hoping he was going to come along the trail right to me but he looked like he was going to go into the taller grass and possible come from behind me so I let out a wolf, he stopped. He was quartering toward me at 100yds or so when I put the crosshairs on him, took the shot heard the wallop, he spun around 4-5 times and then took off running into the tall grass. I stood up but lost sight of him. Foxbang kicked in so I waited a few minutes incase another showed up but none did. I went over to the impact area, lots of blood… I followed the blood through the taller grass, had a good feeling as the blood kept coming out good, it didn’t take long… found him only 50 yds in. The female coyote was average size and in good shape.
The setup, wind coming into my face, looking into the river bottom with large bush directly in front of me.

But coyote doesn’t come from where I think he should…instead he comes from my far left, needed to reposition myself for the shot.

The prize, a nice healthy female

I decided to skin it on site.

30 mins later…. Had him skinned out….it helps to have a very sharp knife (which I was lacking) and I also kept the skull for a Texas mount

Hate to say this , but we like to read these stories, maybe start your own thread instead of railroading someone else's thread, Just sayin not trying to slam you on this, so please don't take it wrong...

Great read and nice coyote. We got this guy a few weeks back..he stoped to take a dump and did not realize I had the scope on him. He never did get to finish
