Hi all
I just bought a #5 MK1 carbine at a gunshow today, and I had a few questions about it. (No pics yet, my wife has the camera with her). There appears to be no markings on the reciever, just an "ENGLAND" stamp with a broad arrow on the left butt socket. Also, other than proof marks, there seems to be no serial number anywhere on the rifle other than a very faint one on the bolt handle. (looks like "xx68", but hard to be sure even with a magnifying glass). Is this normal for one of these? All the examples I have seen are FTRs from Liverpool, so electropenciled on the left reciever wall.
This carbine has definitely seen much usage; most of the metal (especially the barrel) is "in the white", and the walnut stock is pretty battered, but that's what appealed to me:the history of it. Happily, the bore is in excellent condition, which is what made up my mind to purchase her. A very nice addition to my Enfield collection!!
