Hi Folks,

Just got an M-14s today. Put in 5 rnd mag (the little one, not the 5/20) and now I can't get it out. I pull and push on the mag release but nothing. Any thoughts? The thing just won't budge.

By the way, can you point me to a website or something that shows disassembly of the rifle

Thanks

Thanks guys,

got it out.

It really was a PITA. After I got it out, it became clear that it actually never seated entirely properly. Anyways - I wound up destroying the mag in the process of removing it. Other mags work fine.

Thanks again

Fotunately not required for the M14 IMO:

-Unclasp and pull down trigger guard, pull trigger and lockwork unit down and out of receiver.

-Hold buttstock while pulling down on the barrel, remove barreled action from stock.

-Slide op spring guide retaining pin to side while compressing op spring slightly to reduce pressure by pushing forward on base of op spring guide, remove op spring guide and op spring.

-Slide op rod to rear until toe meets the notch in raceway on receiver, pull op rod out slightly and remove op rod toe from raceway, then slide oprod out of guide and free of barreled action to the rear.

-Angle bolt out of receiver, can take a little working to free but it's just a matter of getting the angle right and it falls right out.

-Unscrew and remove gas cylinder plug, drop out gas piston.

This is by my own admission a joe-blow rundown on dissassembly, but I think it covers the major points.

those little 5rd mags are a pain,

I'll stick to the 5/20, easier to seat and remove.

X1. I have to agree, these 5 round mags are totally useless unless you use them as a fixed magazine and load them from a stripper clip. Get a bunch of 20/5 mags and chuck the 5 rounders into your parts bin. BTW, the Norinco 20/5 mags are considered as good as the USGI ones and cheaper and easier to get :D
