Does 5 rounds stripper clips for the SKS exists? I mean in Canada 10 rounds stripper clips are not really usefull...

Sure I can cut my 10 rounds stipper clips in two and with some work do some 5 rounders, but I would be more interested in factory made ones.

Anyone knows?

Thanks!

i keep my stripper clips
than just before going to the range i put 5 rounds on each
then when im shooting i dont need to worry. i just push the 5 rounds that are on the stripper clip down

For hunting, I cut mine to hold about 7 rounds, then I grind it smooth and bend over the end. When I'm done, it holds 5 1/2. I leave it at 5 1/5 so i can load 5 hunting rounds and still close the bolt without shoving one in the pipe. The bending part I do so i can know which way the stripper clip loads by feeling it as the cut stripper clips will have the rounds fall out on the cut end. If you crimp the cut side, its hard to tell which is the feeding end. This is what I do for hunting and hunting loads with my SKS. When i go to the range or any target shooting, I just load and shoot without any changes to the ten round stripper clips with reckless abandonment.

It takes only a few minutes to modify the stripper clips, if you screw some up... well... there is another 5 gallon pail full of them.

You make them! This is what they look like;

Start by loading the clip with 5 empty cases, cut at desired length, crimp one end, buff off rough edges with a bench grinder and add a touch of paint to the crimped end.

This makes the reloading of the SKS under a timer a very slick operation for 3 gun matches. M1 Garand cartridge belts hold 20 of these clips really well, or you can buy the 2 pocket pouches for the Garand that hold 4. If you are really serious about the match, this is the way to go. I've seen guys that just load the full clips with 5 rounds, maybe they will duct tape one end, but they always end up looking like a dog doing obscene things to a football while they try to reload. If your using it for matches, you have to think out your gear. Clips are cheap, if you have the time make up 20 or 30.

I have about 100 stripper clips from my last batch of ammo...

I do believe I am going to try out Garand's method...

UPDATE:

Being a Tin Basher a few years ago means I do have access to tools that most folks don't... But what works really well for cutting the SC's steel is a pair of angle snips (45 Degree Angled Tin Shears.) You get the leverage to do the cutting, but it still take a fair bot of effort to get it done.

Measure with 5 rounds, leave an extra 3/16" or so to crimp the folded bits with a sturdy set of pliers, or anything better than the pliers I got.

Now if I just had a file or a sander handy, I could round off the snipped edges, and voila. Doesn't take so much as two minutes to do the hard work.

Making five round stripper clips

I just heard this one tonight. Credit to Dave.....I think it is a good idea and it should be shared.

Dave put five rounds in, marked where the stopped, added a bit, then used a pair of BOLT CUTTERS with about 18 inch handles.

Lots of leverage, and it also crimped the ends in a bit. Very fast to do.

Then he put red nail polish on the cut ends, after smoothing them up a bit and taking the sharp edges off with a small grinding wheel.
.

I have shot CBQ with my SKS, using stripper clips to re-load against the clock. I left the clips long, so there was more to grab, but I ground of the little tab on one end that holds the cases on the clip. This allows the rounds to slide in more smoothly. I piece of tape on the other end shows which end is "UP".

I also lubed the tracks of the clips, so cases don't bind.

Don't use tin snips

I tried to make some 5 rounders a few months ago. Do not make the same mistake as I did.
I took a brand new pair of Wiss snips and ruined them. The steel is very hard and put notches in my snips as if I cut wire with them.

Use bolt cutters as someone else mentioned. I simply cut them exactly in half, spread the cut end slightly with a small screwdriver then round off with a bench grinder.

The method i used was cut the stripper in half with a rotary tool (Dremel) etc. with a cut off wheel or disc, It's alot easier since they are hardened steel. Next heat the cut end over a flame until red hot, then pinch closed as close to the end as possible. sand off rough edges, add a little red paint to pinched end and remember red end up when loading.

Take a pair of snips to the middle of the stripper clip. Not exactly snips but the leatherman wave has a wire cutter thing in the pliers that work great.

I've done this and it takes me about 30 seconds to make 2 clips.
1. Stick clip half ways in pair of bolt cutters (doesn't even need to be exact, these clips have a little bit of room to them)
2. Stick handles in between knees and cut the clip, when the handles are in between your knees when the clip is bent the pieces just bounce off you shoes instead of bouncing all over the garage floor.
3. Take clips to grinder and then wire brush. Make sure you grind with the crimp, if your grind the opposite direction the tabs (the 2 rails that grip the case head) will rip off.
