50-95

You can special order it from anyone that can order in Bertram Brass from Australia. Shooterschoice.com and rusty wood trading co. Both carry Bertram brass, maybe others but those are the only 2 that I know.

You'll be looking at $97.95 for a box of 20 from shooterschoice.

Also be careful which dies you buy depending on what rifle you have. The Uberti's and Chapperal's don't use the same chamber. I think the 50-95 Chapparal is ok with the RCBS dies, but the correct dies for the uberti are made by CH4D. Hope this helps!

The books say you can make cases from 50-90 sharps (starline or Bertram) , 10X makes ammo but I am not sure where you would access that up here. Midway is out of stock, and again you might have to use some ingenuity to get that up here.

Thanks for the very informative replies gentlemen. I haven't purchased a rifle yet, but I am seriously considering one of the Chaparral reproductions of the Winchester 1876 at Marstar. There appear to be a few options if I am not in a hurry to get shooting the thing I guess. Now to decide whether or not the Chaparrals are well made reliable rifles. The factory is closed now, apparently, so support is only through existing inventories of parts should the need arise. Thinking.....

.50 Alaskan brass can shortened for use in the .50-95. I must say I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of my Marstar Chapparal .50-95. It is also a great deal, where else can you get a .50 cal lever action for $675.00?

I would try Buffalo Arms. The seem to have quite a bit in stock.

I did it. Now to source/make some brass. The last odd ball chambering I bought did not get fired for the better part of a year until I had all the components in hand. Not as impatient as I once was. Will begin by investigating the .348 WCF and the .50 Alaskan as parent cases.

Thanks again to all for the feedback.

Congrats on the 50-95! Would love to hear how it works out as I've almost bought a Uberti a couple times. It will wait even longer now though, as I just picked up a 458WM :)

If you plan on loading smokeless do keep it on the conservative side. The toggle link actions are not nearly as strong as most lever action designs. That and 350gr, maybe 400gr, will be your max bullet weight with the 1:48" twist that the rifle should have.

Have fun!

I plan on playing with Trail Boss loads to start. Then I'll develop some hunting loads. Will endeavour to report back when I get the rifle and assess the machinery. :)

actually, the Chapparals have a 1 in 35 or so twist, not the historically correct twist but much better for use of heavier bullets. Most guys are using 50-70 loads for starting loads. I am trying to find brass, RCBS dies have been ordered from Buffalo arms, and I have a N.O.E. .515 450 grain Hollow base mold I believe will work well with the faster than normal twist.

Whelen B, I will slug the bore when the rifle arrives and let you know. I am very curious about these Chaparrals too.

c t, They may, in fact, have different dimensions. Still investigating. Such limited info on the 50-95 on line. Chaparral is long out of business and their web site is defunct too.

May end up using 348 Win to come up with some brass. I ordered a set of dies yesterday so I will be able to work with something at some point.
