Hey all. I recently got a container of pulled mil-surp 50bmg bullets. Having some issues identifying them.

Firstly in the pic the two laying flat, I believe the silver tip is API but im Not sure what the black with light blue tip is.

2nd theres a few tracer rounds. Some have a red base some are black is there a difference?

Is it possible the black and light blue could be dark blue and light blue?
I found a reference to post war French ammunition id's in an online copy of The Small Caliber Ammunition Guide Vol.1published by the US Army that lists a dark blue/light blue combination as an incendiary round in 12.7×99 more commonly known as 50 BMG

I went through my mixed bag of pulled 50 BMG. Most interesting was a blue and then black band as well as a blue/red/black marked

Definitely black with a blue tip. Ive seen examples of the dark/light blue. I may caelrefully cut one open to see.

Yeah I wouldn't be cutting open any APIs, or anything that could be an API, unless you know what you are doing. And those bottom two are definitely APIs.

From the regulations prescribing this or that as prohibited:

PART 5
Prohibited Ammunition
Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 10
2 Any projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered to ignite on impact, where the projectile is designed for use in or in conjunction with a cartridge and does not exceed 15 mm in diameter.

And I bet you follow every speed limit too eh. They are just to look at. won't be firing any anytime soon. Besides they have already been in this country for at least 30 years with the guy that gave them to me.

Just wanted to make sure people knew what the applicable law was. That's all.

Such as the fact that it doesn't matter how long they have been here, and that it is possession that is prohibited, and not their firing. Firing them is probably the best way to legally dispose of them. Or you could just keep them. I couldn't care less what you own friend. No I don't follow every speed limit and ask me how I know what APIs look like. ;)

No worries, I’ve knew they were “prohibited”. I doubt most govt officals or even RCMP know that law themselves, silly canadian gunlaws is all. Somebody has to keep them on their toes right?

Thanks! I did the same thing as this guy. They both are API’s. Not sure why they have different color codes.

Once my lot of projectiles show up I’ll be sectioning a black / blue and a silver tip.

I am expecting to see similar to the most recent one I posted which Looks like it was a red / black with most paint worn off.
