Finally got around to starting the 50 reloads. Bought a couple of lbs of Hodgdons but as most know, that won't last long. Was told it was going to get real scarce soon as the U.S. doesn't wanna export it so I bought a lb. of Accurate 8700 but i'm having troubles finding loads for it. Any body know where to find some. The accurate web site wasn't any help. Would like to hear from someone with experience using the 8700

I have no personal experience, but there's one unverified load on Reloadersnest that'll give you 31 rounds per pound. Add the W's.
reloadersnest.com/unverified_detail.asp?CaliberID=198&ID=3135
Where are you shooting it? Just curious.

Mike - What bullet you using?
Only record I have of using it was 211 grains behind a 750 A-max. I see I didn't record velocity, only that it didn't shoot worth a damn.

LoadDisc suggests (with 750 A-max) 182 - 206 gr for starting load, 218 - 240(!) showing possible high pressure. Quite a range.

50 loads

The bullets i have are pulled bullets picked up from a show in the states, went through all the bags on the table and grabbed a couple that had no marks. They are Ball ammo. M33, 655 Gr. each, they weigh out remarkably close for military stuff. The hodgdon site has the load plus 3 other sources i found that i can't remember right now. Tested a few yesterday and the holes touch at 100 M through my rifle. The recoil is very barable and i think these will work. Problem is i've been told by the store i get stuff from that the u.s. will not be shipping anymore of this powder for a bit, somthing about war measures act or something, and it saying 50 BMG on the label.
I did some math today if you include the brass that I bought, the powder the primers and the pulled bullets. The cost each is $6.46 each to build.
If you have the brass and just buy the rest the cost each is $3.46 .
I had bought some new brass to try the first couple of cartridges with.

Not sure where people get some of the crazy high prices i've seen  . If you own one of these you have to learn to shop.
Go to Military events/shows.
BTW got 26 rds. out of a 1lb can of H50BMG. Have one more to use then gonna try 8700 which i understand will still be available.

Acquired a couple of ammo tins of surplus stuff last year , about 100-125 rds. each for $138.00 us. Not sure where people get some of the crazy high prices i've seen  . If you own one of these you have to learn to shop.

Not sure it is a great idea to be admitting to illegal exports from the US on an internet forum.
You are aware that there have been a few cases of late where info from this site led to international investigations.

I recall a grenade launcher issue causing an uproar here in the last month or so. Included a couple of dealers being slagged, 1 banned then unbanned.
Then there was the grizzly bear poaching that was resolved through info from this forum.
I did not pay much attention to it all, but to me it seems wise to NOT tug too hard on the tigers tail.
I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that exporting 50 cal stuff from the US was illegal, so to me it seems a bit dumb to be openly admitting the breaking of international laws on a forum that has got to have some LE eyes in it.

I take everything people say on the internet with a grain of salt, alot of other people around here should to.

That issue did not start from a thread posted here by SD, he had the issue come up with his Milkor and then Dlask was involved. He posted about his displeasure with Joe and how his/our info was compromised.

But AFAIK nothing has ever been started from a LEO/GOVT Official reading something here and then opening an investigation based on illegal postings.

Bag of bullets

Before the trip I spoke with Customs and at crossing spoke to the guys at the border, neither had any problems with it and both knew about them.
And if posting buying a bag of bullets here was a bad idea, i suppose quoting and reposting it by others probably doesn't help things. :runaway:
I figured in this sport it was all for one, one for all type thing.
