50 bmg

Not aware of any that are made as they are of no benefit except they look cool - perhaps someone can plate - the items listed above certainly are and love all 3! My BMW does over 90 in second but certainly not a muscle car, but hundreds in Porter's Lake, near us.

My question would be , why?

You are asking that on CGN? I would suspect the first answer would be 'they look cool'. Second I suspect would be 'cuz'.

IIRC Hitech made some years ago, plus there were some fluted dummies with a nickle case. Can't think of any on the market now though. You might find the odd one a collectors show etc.

Didn't some WW2 era 50 have a nickel (silver colored) projectile? You know like some of the old .303 had. I have some .303 that have that and some 5.56 nickel projectiles and seem to recall seeing WW2 era 50 with the same. Never recall seeing a nickel 50 cal case though. Would look pretty neat that size all nickelled up.

Sorry, I tend to think more of practicality and usefulness. Nickle plating does separate from the brass substrate that the casings are made of even with little calibers. Given how much the 50 BMG casings typically "grow" with every firing, nickle plating would be a real bad idea. I would suspect that after 2 or 3 firings the nickle plating would start to "flake" off the casing and get embedded into the chamber of the rifle, which of course is less than a desirable effect.

My aged brain is starting to fail me, but IIRC Ron Fuchs book on the 50BMG can/could be had for free online as a PDF, the OP could try hunting a copy down.

LOL, I see quite a few 50BMG owners/shooters who are more worried about the cool factor. You need to start making nickle casings, with black bullets, like giant Black Talon rounds. That would be cool...
