I have been a long time hunter and shooter and have been reading all about the 50 cal shooter club, I was throwing around the idea of may be trying to find one of these guns. My question is are they legal in canada and if so where would I be able to find one, also what are they worth. Thanks for the imput.

50 cal rifles for the most part ARE legal in Canada, there are a few that are prohibited by make and model.
There are a few of us who make 50 cals along with several box stores who will sell you 1 of the few production rifles that are not made in the USA.
There is not a Canadian 50 cal club like the FCSA in the US here in Canada that is official but there is a group of us who loosely make up the Canadian 50 cal Shooters Association, which is pretty much just a bunch of us fanatics who like to try and get together to make REAL big booms when we can.
You do not mention where abouts you are so hard to direct you as to where there is anything close to you.
Here at the shop we speak 50 very fluently and have the largest selection of 50 cal products in Canada.
We try to put on a match a year, last year however it just did not work out, not sure how this years shoot is going to work out either, but we can hope.

I was hot and horny for a 50 bmg and like accumark live on the island. 8 grand ( gun optics reloading s**t etc) is too much to have tied up for something that you can only legally shoot in the woods:(

Yup it is sort of like buying a Ferrari, sure it can do 200MPH but where?
Not to mention the maintenance costs are much higher than those of a Honda Civic.
Some of us still like to have BIG guns and are willing to go the distance to find places to shoot them at distance.
That does not make us wrong.

Who builds the best reloading dies for .50 BMG. What would be a 2nd pick.

I have a set of lee dies and factory crimp die. If you order from lee themselves you can get the whole press and dies for about $300
Best value for the money for sure. Check it out...

I broke my lee press on the first case I tried to resize. So, I bought an RCBS kit. It's a better system by far. The press has to be very sturdily mounted as well. Use lots of case lube also.

Please direct the ignorant to this very elusive LAW...

Where does it say that .50cal is not legal to shoot at ranges (indoor or outdoor)...?

BTW, some people live in the "wide-open" part of Canada, called "The Prairies". Lots of room to shoot .50cal, and don't have to travel far at all...

Everything in Canada doesn't revolve around Gangcouver & Moronto...

As long as the range is approved for 50....then no problem. Our range template only covers up to/and including 338 Lapua. Check with your clubs RSO.....he should know.

Every time I shoot with my 50 cal, I don't think about how much each bullet is costing. I gain an immense amount of pleasure from shooting one.

If I end up with less than 100 bullets, I simply pick up the phone and call ATR.

If I could ask Santa Clause for another rifle, it would be an AS50. It wouldn't get better than being able to shoot with a 50 cal in semi auto. Sadly Santa hasn't been cooperative over the years.

Tad bit offensive don't you think? You should probably consider editing that one.

No need, the guy has the reading comprehension of that of creatinous churl:rolleyes: I live on Vancouver island and was talking about the ranges in my general area, if not of the whole island. I don't think any are templated for 50 bmg. But I know some of the woods are. I finally had my 338 Timberwolf out to 1070 yards. Yes, it was in the woods. So JOHN R1, back away from the rubbing alcohol and praire oysters and be grateful you don't live on an island. I am:rolleyes:

I think the law in which they are speaking is that you aren't allowed to use amour piercing rounds. I know that is a HUGE no no at my range.

I had the opportunity to shoot a Barrett .50 cal semi last year. It didn't have a scope on it so we were trying to hit the 300 yard gong with iron sights. We must have put over 200 rounds down range at that gong. Never heard a single smack. Please understand that this gong was about 1 inch thick and solid iron hanging on chains.

Well, when we drove out to see the gong, it had been hit many times. The bullets passed through it like it was punched paper. The holes were PERFECT. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. There wasn't even bent metal on the other side. It was just perfect holes.

I personally fired 20 rounds. If you haven't ever fired a .50, I highly recommend that you try it. There is nothing that can describe the shock and awe that it creates. One of the best experiences of my life. I hope to some day be able to afford a .50, but that won't be for years to come.
