50 cal dewat

If you're deactivating a .50 BMG because of the May 1 Liberal ban announcement - you don't need to anytime soon.

There's an amnesty until April 30, 2022.

And there are 5-6 lawsuits filed that may injunct, overturn or modify the ban, or the Liberals may not be able to reneg on grandfathering provisions.

Apologies in advance if this is another 50 cal or already dewatted pre-ban.

Yes: and for M1919's. Military Vehicle Collectors (me)are always looking for decent ones. PM me if you have one, or know of one to sell. I know lots of people looking

It's a M2 BMG

So something like this?

Yes, a market, as ShooterMcGavin says for WW2 vehicle restorers. I guess the price also depends on condition. Many of these are very badly torch cut and others concocted from M3 aircraft guns.

Yep, that's it. No rust or cut's, and an M2

I would think the market for dewat Ma-deuces is bigger than than for fully functioning full-auto M2s. Very few 12-2 or 12-3 license holders left.

Sad (very sad) truth, but the reality we find ourselves in today, especially under the ever pandering and totally incompetent and inept Trudeau Liberal Regime (note: Not a "government").

There aren't many 12(2) or12(3) grandfathers left. And just to illustrate the intricacy of Canadian gun laws, some time ago, a collector contacted me looking for a Lewis gun. The complication was that it would have to be full-auto, because he had 12(2) status, but not 12(3). Full-auto grandfathering does not include converted auto. Just because you can be trusted with a fully-automatic firearm, that doesn't mean you can be trusted with a semi-auto look-alike. After all, it's those semi-autos that are causing our current bloodbath.

12.3 converted automatics are effectively gone anyway. Even if you attempt to transfer one to another 12.3 owner (which is allowed...on paper) the gun goes to the lab where it sits forever while the not too ambitious lab employees try everything to get it going auto again. They never manage but they also never release the gun to either the original or new owners. So even if the law allows for one thing, the system does an end run around it. Weld 'em solid where so much as a sling swivel doesn't move is your only recourse.

Age-wise, full autos were prohibited in 1978. The youngest you could be if you bought your full auto on your 18th birthday would be 60 today.

For converted autos I think the year was 1993, so again if you were smart enough to buy a CA on your 18th birthday you would be 45 today.

OK I have bought several 12.3's from dealers . They are no problem. Their gunsmith sends the lab a report. The lab sends them a list of what needs to be done. The smith does it and sends back pictures. Transfer approved. 12.3 from private sellers is a different story I had one at the lab for three years but did get it. Lab sent it to a gunsmith for the needed "upgrade" . Would love a 12.3 M2

Is there any interest in the collector community for buying good condition functional bolts for 50 cal m.g.’s, and if so what would they be worth?
Also is there interest in other parts such as butterfly triggers?

Cut off date for full automatics 12(2) was January 1st, 1978 and for converted automatics 12(3) that date was October 2nd, 1992.

I have had several 12(3)'s transferred in the last three years that took anywhere from four to eight weeks to complete the transfer. A lot depends on whether you buy from a dealer (such as Ellwood Epps, MARSTAR, or Wolverine Supplies) where they have a gunsmith who can check the gun out and see how it was converted. If you buy from an individual collector and the gun has already been checked out by the RCMP in recent years then they have a record of the changes made and the transfer is usually approved fairly quickly.

Six years ago it was a quite a different story (at least for me). I bought a 12(3) from another collector and that took nearly three years for the transfer to be approved. The RCMP technicians didn't try to get it to fire full auto because the gun didn't have a bolt when they received it and when they finally did check out the gun all they did was examine the mechanism. They were deliberately stalling for all those years but I think that's changed somewhat now.

Is that my old gun? If so, it was a saw cut from Peter Wilke. Colt manufacture if I remember correctly.
