So this may turn out to be a stupid question but...... can you legaly own a 50 cal rifle in canada?

dont belong to a club, most of my shooting is done in the back 40, i was just curious might be an investment some day down the line
cant put a price on shooting last month i spent about 2000 on guns

You can own a Semi-Automatic Bullpup .50 BMG, Non-Restricted. And it's black too. To my knowledge, except for .32 and .25 ACP (is it those two?), Canada has no caliber restrictions in place.

I thought it was just that the only guns that used these calibers are prohibited because of barrel length and it had mothing to do with the ammo used. Aren't those calibers primarily for the little pocket rocket/purse pistols?

No, there a couple of caliber that are prohibited by name, but they are prohibited because they are mostly used in pocket pistols.

Nothing wrong with an HS-50, unless you absolutely absotively have to have a semi-auto.

Manufacturer could not keep up with Canadian demand, let alone the big US demand that has surged recently, so they have ceased exports for the time being to Canada AFAIK.

This is third hand info though, so take it for what it is worth.
