I live in the okanagan British Columbia and I want to know if anyone knows where I can order 50 caliber ammo for my S&W 500 and my 50 AE. eagle? Local dealer ordered me some in but wants $65 for 20 rounds for my 500. Not sure how much for the eagle yet. I know ammo is gonna cost but I've bought the same rounds for my 500 at $50 a box which is almost a buck a shot cheaper.

I know one thing for sure you won't find the factory ammo you need cheap!

You just need to start reloading... ;) it;s the only way to go with .50ae and .500s&w, heck I relaod for 9mm :D

get yourself a Lee Turret or Challenger press, lee scale, dies, auto disk and you'll be set to go for couple hundred $..

Reloading for any .50 cal will soon recover your capital investment in equipment, therafter you will be saving lots........just bite the bullet and go for it, as the sooner you start the more you will save.

I would rank reloading equipment brands in desending order with respect to as fabricated quality and performance as follows (based on my ownership and experience):
Redding, RCBS, Lyman, Hornady,...................................Lee. The first four in the group all represent fully capable equipment, Redding is the most expensive and it is readily apparent why, and Lee is the least expensive and is also readily apparent why.

Remember, when purchasing reloading equipment, you are puchasing tooling. Cheap out here, and it will agrivate you again and again; buy some quality and you shall be satisfied again and again.

I use Lee press, scale, dies, Auto disk have no complaints :)

If you want to spend $500-1000 on reloading equipment you can, but you don't have to ;)

I used to use a Lee pro 1000. Then I got fed up with powder leaking on to the press, primers jamming & generally being fussy.
When they work, they work well but in my experience they go out of tune very quickly & often. I guess you get what you pay for.
Now I use Dillon & I am happy.

Go for the Lee Classic single stage press and Lee Dies bought new. A RCBS powder measure and RCBS powder scale, these can usually be found at gun shows for reasonable prices. You don't really need the Progressive presses unless your loading 100's at one time. And with the .50 you should maybe be weighing each load, unless you load up some lighter loadsand they probably are still going to be hot because of the need to fill the big case. Check out ww.higginsonpowders.com they are a Canadian dealer for LEE and have a catalog on line email them for a Canadian price list it'll come in a day or so, some of the dealers at the top of the page may also handle Lee. Personally I find LEE DIES to be fine for me, others I am sure will have different opinions.

I have only one set of Lee dies, but it works fine, once I threw away the stupid rubber lock ring thing and replaced it with an RCBS lock ring. It is for 458 Win Mag, and it makes some very accurate ammo.
I have some other bits and pieces by Lee, mostly lead melter and bulllet molds, etc. Seems OK.
But for the press itself, I would stay away from Lee, based on numerous complaints from others.
Start with a single stage, from any of the brands mentioned above.
