Anybody have any experience with these?

I've read about it, I have two rounds in my cartridge collection, but never fired it.
Seems like a good idea, though.

sigh, 45 at 830 fps, 50 at 700 fps, so when we build the .75 version, it'll shoot slow enough it won't be classed as a fire arm......

It would be neat to own, but as a working gun, less usefull then the real thing I believe....if you want a 50 handgun, look for a 500 S&W or a 50 AE....

Interesting, though the brass looks like a bit of a PITA to obtain.

I wonder if one could make some short WSM brass cut short and tapered to accept a .500 bullet (in much the same way as the 45-08 forms ultra-thick 45acp brass from .308 casings). One could likely machine down the web/rim to fit the same bolt face as the 45ACP. With such thick brass, I'd expect that these .50 wssssm's could be loaded to much higher pressures and ~44 mag power levels.

If you build it they will come. I'd love a .75 cal handgun that shot under 4 or 500 FPS (whatever the designation is that determines pellet gun from gun).

700 grain bullet at 400 FPS = 10 foot deadly zone. Good enough for me.

Don't forget there is some sort of energy (joules) regulation that would kibosh that idea. Its on the CFC website IIRC.

Funny thing is, that in the US, that would be considered a DD, Destructive Device, as it is over 50 cal, so would not be built.
Up here, where "Ya all can't own nuthin' ", we are free to build and own one.
For us, small is scary, for the US, big is scary.

In that case, just put half a brick in your pocket and heave it at people...thats the logical conclusion of this argument....well, short of some sort of mace or club....:D
