Well, I have limited my posts but must jump in here.
I read every gun mag on the racks from about 1956 to 1961, a bonus for a bored pharmacist. As well, I then had a membership in the NRA and so had the Rifleman. When from 1958 until 1961 I owned my own very small country DRUG STORE (which was too old and unpretentious to be styled a PHARMACY) when I had more income from selling OTC veterinary stuff to farmers than from actual Rxs from the local doctors who were selling drugs to their patients (a real rip of the captive patient!) before provincial pharmacare arrived in Ontario. I dispensed one (1) true Rx a day on average (!!!) so had to make up the income difference with the vet OTC business, gift wares, a large volume of first class BBQ charcoal in the summer (I had a large summer cottage trade) and selling guns.
From Globe firearms in Montreal, I was buying L-E Mk. 4s by the case, bubba-ing the wood and selling them for about a $15 profit. Hand guns too, S & W .38s (Property of the USA) revolvers, .22LR and .357M derringers, 22 Short very small semi-auto hammer guns for about $35, Astras from Spain I think. I lusted for the L-E snipers rifles, scoped and in the case but money was tight and I never bought one, indeed never saved one of the L-E Mk 4 with the tangent rear peep unbubbed.
In the rear of this country drug store, I had a bluing tank set up with a long Union gas fired burner going full length in which I did some very acceptable hot bluing and browning but only in the winter.
In 1961, I closed this over 100 year old drug store and was recruited by the Feds to be a "narcotic auditor" and after training, moved to the west coast, with a drop in annual income from over $10,000 a year to $5,700. A very wise move...
Enought what iffing....
