whats the difference other then the 590a1 being the "military" shotgun or w/e people say it is.

is there a massive quality different?

Heavy Barrel, Metal trigger guard and safety, Finish is usually matte and parkerized, Different magazines and capacity.

I own a 590A1, was lucky enough to hold A/B it with a 500 persuader in the shop before buying and the decision was easy. The 500 persuader had the same capacity and overall length, but that's where the similarities ended. the 590 has a substantially heavier barrel and tube, nicer fore-grip, aluminum safety and trigger guard. Mine came with ghost ring sights which are outstanding, makes slug shooting much easier. oh yeah, and a bayonet lug! Knife on the end of a shotgun? Sure, I'll take it. One "downside", the gun is heavy, but I don't mind the weight. After fondling the 590, the 500 feels like a cheap immitation.

Another thing different that people often overlook is the finish. 500 is blued, 590 is parkerized much like a Remington sps. I have owned a 590 and found that the parkerized finish wears easier than any of my blued guns... That combined with added weight are not to be overlooked IMHO... On the other hand ghost ring sights are a nice addition.
