Howdy, I currently have a line on a 500 S&W, 8 3/4" barrel with the top porting. Gun has less than 200 rounds through it, comes with original case, leather cross chest holster, Leupold 4X Long eye relief handgun scope with mounts. I'm curious as to what this setup is worth? I already know what it costs to feed and that hasn't deterred me. The guy that's selling it wants 1800 for the whole package, is that a good price?

The price seems to be in line. Mine listed @ $1500.oo new but the guy that bought it had trouble obtaining ammo for it so he brought it back. The shop sold it to me as used, even though it hadn't actually shot, for $1300.oo.

the past week i was at the store for a couple box of ammo, there was a brand new sw in 500 sw for 1400$ plus tax .the gun itself with 0 goodies.

Ya, the real problem with this firearm is not the $1500 price tag. But was the ability to find ammo at normal price. Every time I go looking for more it seems like it just rose another $10. I geuss I should start to learn how to reload.

Sounds like a great deal. I believe they all come with the range bag and rail for optics but the holster is likely a few hundred bucks, and then the scope itself, so ya, $1800 is a good deal.

Sorry to cut in but I just watched Dolan's Cadillac last night. I must say the 500 S&W Revolver was the star of the show! :)

I knew it had to be close that range, plus scope and holster seems like a decent deal, thanks for the help guys. Already fired it for a test run on the weekend. Makes my 44 mag Anaconda feel like a 38 special. Those Hornady guys sure load em good. Next will have to be heads, brass, Dies and a big jug of lil'gun.

I can't say they'd want to stand in front either.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, it has the ability to inflict pain, at both ends;). In spite of the Hogue grips, using hot loads especially with the heavier bullets, there was some serious 'discomfort' I was getting. This was primarily because of the rubber being very thin in the area of the hump on the grip frame. I modified a set of Jordan Trooper stocks I had for a S&W model 29, made by Herritt's. That made the effects of recoil bearable. Spread the pain over a bigger area I guess:p.

Seemed to work for me anyway.

If you cast - Mountain Molds is your friend.

I have 700gr and 640gr molds I designed and they cast really nice.

I have the HR 500 S&W rifle. It is a handful as a rifle so I cannot imagine in a handgun. Although, I am sure the handgun doesn't weigh too much less then the rifle.
My loads are Hornady 500 gr bullets going at 1600 fps. No pressure signs so I might up the load a bit more.

I'll likely use it at the range the same way I use my 44 mag, to impress upon friends and embarrass people missing the 100 yard gong with rifles. Probably get so I can poke the 300 as well, just for $h•*s and giggles. Doing up some lighter cast plinking loads will probably justify it as a target pistol in my fathers eyes , which are currently rolling.
