Alright, I have a Norc M-14, with these parts;
DaveGP Stock
Rooster33 op-rod spring guide
Rooster33 cheekrest
Rooster33 over sized bolt release
Scope mount
bipod
Now, besides a optical sight and skullboys paint job, I'm looking to spend about another $500 on it. That $500 I want spent on performance and accuracy. Where is it best spent???
Depends on what you are going to use this rifle for.
Range plinking, leave it as it is.
Competition/Service/Sniper matches are a different story.
To build a tackdriver, another $500.00 isn't much money to do a lot with.
A new complete USGI bolt will run around $350.00 Cdn ( used bolts will run around $250 ish), and a Medium/heavy Match barrel can run from $400.00 to over $600.00.Plus the cost of installation and having the chamber cut and bolt fitted.
personally, I would look around for a used USGI bolt and have it fitted/headspaced.This will usually decrease the factory headspacing to something close to a match spec chamber. The Norc barrel is pretty mush USGI equivilent.
When I did a bolt swap years ago on "IRENE", I tightend up my headspace by about 10 thou. to 1.633". (SAAMI minimum for .308Win is 1.630")
You can unitise the Gas system, but if you shim it properly that work just as well.
Replace the Norc op rod spring with a USGI op rod spring.
The Norc op rod is fine as it is a forged unit.
The Norc trigger is not bad.Just lube it properly.
SKBY.
