This proposal would move BC to giving twice the north american average quota to BC Guide Outfitters, long time cash supporters of the governing BC Liberal party. Other than the very sparsely populated Territories about a 10% maximum allocation of allowable hunts go to guide outfitters in all of north Americas jurisdictions. The Guide Outfitters of BC (GOABC) have convinced the BC minister responsible to give them twice that behind closed doors. And this quota, taken from BC resident hunters behind our backs and in total disagreement with the BC Wildlife Federation, the oldest not for profit volunteer protector of hunting and conservation issues in the province.

Below is the BCWF page with a press release on this and a petition. I'd urge not just all BC residents but all of Canada to look at this closely. This could have impact down the road country wide. This allocation policy still has to go through the legislature in the very near future. Yours in conservation;

Now if you could manage to get everyone in the province to not buy any LEH's in protest you would show the government how pissed off we are. That would wake them up in a hurry. Have to hit the pocket book.

Thanks guys.

I signed one a month ago on a thread on this very topic. Is it the same petition?

Not sure spank in my little world this news broke about 3 weeks ago.

What can non-BC Residents do? Can we sign the petition?

Obviously being that its the BC government selling out BC residents and BC residents are the only ones that can hold them to account by voting its BC signatories that will get their attention the most. Having said that iirc where you live is mandatory in the petition so I see no issue at all signing it as a concerned neighbour and it sure won't hurt! The bean counters are free to go through the names nothing will be hidden.

I'd also strongly recommend that BC residents call or write their MLA there isn't much time. BC MLA finder - https://www.leg.bc.ca/mla/3-1-1.htm
Another petition on the issue - https://www.change.org/p/ministry-of...hunters-rights

So basically the same # of tags will be given out in total, but the outfitters that mostly cater to our friends south of our boarder will be getting double what they normally get? F that, I'll sign it!

An important thing that I neglected to say is that we are not against guided hunting in fact we support the guide outfitter industry as it is in our province. What we most strongly oppose is this sudden behind the scenes massive gift to GOABC taken from resident hunter opportunities of which are already high odd draw situations.

Saskatchewan does this too as they offer outfitting opportunities in zones where residents cannot hunt over the counter. I have written the gov't about this on a number of occasions and they have told me that is just the way it is and to basically mind my own business.

I hand wrote a letter and put it in the return envelop for the yearly hunting survey they send out!
They want our input for what we see when we are out hunting to allegedly help with management and then take hunting opportunities away from the residents who fill these surveys out.
Get ******!!!

Too bad the GOABC don't reciprocate your support.

Oh this happens all the time here in BC. Roosevelt Elk, Grizzly and Bison are three species which have ZERO general open season, but guides get their annual quota. Moose hunting opportunities are severely curtailed throughout the vast majority of the province. In some areas the draw odds are 30:1 or worse...but of course the guides get their quotas.

There was a time not that long ago that they pretty much did. But increasingly there's out of country ownership and/or those that only care about the bottom line that influence the decisions of the GOABC.

Out of country ownership + out of country guides + out of country clients. There is one guide I know of whose website is only in German.

I don't think it legal without proper consultation with FirstNations and I cannot see any BC first Nations agree with this
Food has always been more important than trophies

First Nations do not have quotas on big game as far as I know.

As far as the additional allocations given to Outfitters, if I was a BC resident I would make damn sure the political party in power gets the pressure squeeze from the BC Resident Hunters. You have the voting power, you work and spend $$$$ in BC, and there is for sure way more voices of Resident Hunters over Outfitters. IMO, if they open more allocations for Outfitters, then the GOVT should give more LEH's to the Residents.
